now playing: die first by nessa barrett

warm shades of honey and tangerine poked through the sheer curtains in the recovery room. the bright hues shined beautifully and cascaded onto yuki's skin. her eyes twitched gently at the light, and she soon let them flutter open.

her vision was filled with the familiarity of the recovery room, but it was empty. there were fresh new sheets that laid abandoned on forgotten beds and there was a stiff yet calm energy floating around the air. yuki gave a small yawn before stretching her arms out though, there was a blockade that her arms collided with. she flicked her eyes over to her left and a soft smile soon slipped onto her lips.

bakugou was found sleeping next to her, with his arms wrapped around her waist and his face nuzzled into yuki's neck. she gave a chuckle and ran her hands through his hair. "he stayed," she murmured to herself. "cute."

bakugou stirred under her gentle touch, turning onto her hand. yuki ran her thumb up and down his cheek to hopefully wake him. he shuttered again before finally opening his eyes a little. yuki could barely see his irises before he jumped up into a siting position.

"good morning," yuki giggled, letting her fingers fidget with the strings on his pants.

"yuki— oh my god!" he exclaimed as he launched forward to hug her. bakugou wrapped his arms around her neck tightly. yuki laughed into the hug as her fingertips pressed against his back. "you're here,"

"i am," yuki replied.

bakugou nuzzled his nose into her neck, taking in her scent. he took a deep breath. "im so sorry," he paused when yuki's fingers danced up and down his spine. "i can't believe that i hurt you, im so glad you're okay and..." he gulped. "that i didn't kill you."

yuki pulled away from the hug but bakugou's arms where still around her neck. she rested her hands in his lap whilst they stared at each other. "im going to be okay."

"are you?" he inquired with a soft wavier in his tone. "i gave you third degree burns and—"

"you didn't hurt me 'kugo," she hummed.

"what?" he scoffed lightly. "but i did! so badly— and i promised kirishima and myself that i wouldn't hurt you and,"

"you didn't hurt me," yuki hazily hushed his rambles. "hurt is intentional, bumps and bruises are accidentally."

"this isn't just bumps and bruises," bakugou brought his hands down from yuki's neck and ghosted his fingertips over the bandages that were tightly bound around her biceps. "they're scars," his voice was soft.

"scars mean survival, do they not?" yuki murmured, pushing bakugou's bangs out of his eyes. "to heal is to hurt and to hurt is to heal."

"i love that you're like that," he muttered against the skin of her soft palm. yuki's face soon flushed a soft rose hue.

"like what?"

"so optimistic, and positive," bakugou mused as he let his eyes flutter open and close in soft, slow blink. "nothing like me."

yuki cocked an eyebrow. "you like that i'm nothing like you?"

he nodded. "who would want to be like me anyways?"

yuki scooted closer to the blond. she moved her hand from his cheek to the base of his neck. "there's nothing wrong with being you katsuki," she muttered. bakugou felt a tingle crawl up his skin at his name rolling off her tongue so casually. "i like who you are."

he scoffed lightly and gazed away from her eyes. "yeah," bakugou chewed on the inside of his cheek. "well im not sure why you do, im kind of an asshole."
