As the date of the expedition grew near my nerves grew along with it. I wasn't really worried about myself, but more about my comrades. They were the ones who were really putting themselves in danger. I knew they were capable, but I'd also seen the state of the scouts after they'd returned from outside the walls in the past.
I was leaning against a wall lost in thought as I watched my new friends train harder than ever. I felt a pair of eyes boring into me, I turned and met the captains glare. He stared for a moment longer before turning his attention back to his subordinates. I felt my heart rate increase slightly and quickly stood and headed out to train so It didn't seem like I was slacking.
I had no idea what was going on with me the past few days, but every time I saw Levi I got all flustered. I could barely focus on anything as he was constantly on my mind.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and jumped slightly. I shifted my gaze from Levi, who I just noticed I was staring at, and turned to face Hange.
"I need your help, I need you to come to my office." She spoke quickly, grabbing my wrist and pulling me inside. I started to panic slightly as I was practically dragged to her office. I tried to speak but she kept hushing me and told me to wait. We reached the door to her office and she quickly pushed me in, locking the door behind her.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?" I questioned nervously.
Hange turned slowly to face me, a wild smirk playing on her face.
"Hange...."
"You like Levi don't you?" My eyes widened in shock at her question, causing her to smile wider.
"N-no..."
"You SO do!" Hange shouted excitedly. I hushed her harshly before speaking.
"I don't know how I feel.. I've never had feelings for anyone before." I muttered, a slight blush creeping on my face.
"Lucky for you I know exactly how you feel. I've seen the way you look at him. You're in loveeeeeeee." Hange said drew out the last word playfully.
"You have no idea what I'm feeling." I huffed. "Besides... I doubt he would return the feelings even if they do exist...."
Hange started laughing at my confession, making my irritation grow slightly. "You know y/n? For someone as smart as you you sure are clueless!"
"What are you even talking about? He treats me the same as everyone else. I'm no different from any of the cadets in his eyes." Hange's laughter grew even more as she clutched her sides and heaved. I huffed as she tried to control herself.
"Ok then, tell me about your recent interactions with shorty."
I sighed annoyedly as I mulled over what had gone on the past few months. "Well, to start off he saved me from these assholes my second day here and brought me to the infirmary. Awhile after that I was cleaning the stables where I was attacked and he kept watch outside the whole time. Then I treated his arm from the accident during the mock expedition, every time we went out again he came to me with a new injury. And in between all that I opened up about my past a bit."
"My point exactly." Hange stated triumphantly.
"What..?"
"Well for starters, shorty is known as humanity's strongest soldier. Do you really think he got that title while being as clumsy as he is around you? Not to mention he's extremely stubborn. He once got stabbed through the arm by a rouge sword from a soldier who was flung. Not only did he continue fighting for the last hour of the mission, but he refused to go to the infirmary until it became infected. I find it quite uncharacteristic that he comes to you after every little bruise."
I stood in silence as I digested the information Hange had just told me before finally getting the courage to speak.
"Even if all that is true, I won't believe it fully unless the captain tells me himself. Until then I'm not going to jump to conclusions."
"Suit yourself, just don't be too surprised when the time comes." Hange replied in a sing song voice.
I rolled my eyes and began walking towards her door, but not before mumbling my thanks.
