(Y/ns POV)-
The day after the expedition was filled with paperwork. I had to write detailed reports of the injuries the patients faced and how I treated them, aswell as document how much supplies were used. Even though there weren't many patients, the amount of work was insane. I had spent most of the day in my room writing until my hand cramped. By the time the sun was setting I was struggling to keep my head up. Despite my exhaustion I went to the dining hall for dinner as I hadn't eaten all day.
I grabbed my food and flopped down next to Hange, laying my head on the table and sighing loudly."Are you ok y/n? You look like hell."
"How the hell have you survived after all the damn paperwork you have to do? Look at my hands Hange!" I held my hands up to her face, displaying my red knuckles dramatically.
Hange laughed at my response. I groaned and dropped my head on the table once again."Paperwork is necessary for medical practitioners is it not? You should be used to it." Erwin questioned in his usual formal tone.
"I had assistants do all my paperwork, I was too busy with the never ending patients."
"It's not that bad, you're being overly dramatic." Levi said from across the table. I lifted my head to glare at him.
"If I remember correctly you made quite the fuss about paperwork when you first joined the corp Levi." Erwin chuckled while Levi clicked his tongue and looked away. A smirk formed on my face as I sat upright.
"Why did you join the survey corps anyway Levi? I don't think you've ever talked about it."
"That's none of your damn business." Levi snapped before getting up and exiting the dining hall. Hange turned to me and smiled softly.
"Don't worry about him, it's a sensitive topic. I'm sure he'll tell you when he's ready."
I felt my stomach sink slightly. I must've brought back some painful memories.
I finished my food in silence before heading to bed. I considered going to Levi's officers apologize, but decided to give him some privacy. Instead I got into bed and fell into another restless sleep.—
The next day I didn't see much of Levi at all. I spent most of it checking up on the survivors of the last expedition though, so I didn't think much of it.
I grew slightly concerned as the days went by and I barely saw him however. Sometimes I'd pass him in the halls and try to talk to him, but he acted as if he couldn't hear me. He started eating in his office, telling Hange he was busy with paperwork even though Erwin confirmed he didn't have much.
On the fifth day I decided to ask Hange about it.I knocked on the door to Hange's lab where she usually resided during the day. A few seconds passed before the sound of footsteps grew louder and the door opened to reveal my friend in a lab coat stained with a brown substance.
"Is that... dried blood?" I questioned nervously.
"Never mind that, what brings you here?" Hange nonchalantly brushed off my question. I blinked a few times before speaking.
"Can I talk with you? I'm concerned about Levi."
Hange sighed and opened the door wider while gesturing for me to enter. I stepped in slowly and took a seat at one of the stools by a counter covered in test tubes and various equipment unfamiliar to me. Hange closed the door and sat on the counter next to me after haphazardly shoving some stuff to the side.
"He's been ignoring me for almost a week. I don't know if I did something wrong or not..." I trailed off.
"That's strange, he's been acting fine around Erwin and I. Had anything happened between you two before this?"
"Not really. Right after the mission outside the walls he got mad that I was reckless, but calmed down. It was actually a really sweet moment and I thought we had grown closer, but then he just started completely avoiding me."
"Don't worry, you did nothing wrong. I'll talk to him and see what's going on." I nodded at Hange's words, slightly surprised at her assertive tone.
"Thank you Hange. You're the best." I spoke softly. I went in to hug her, but stopped when I remembered the strange stains on her lab coat. Instead I patted her on the back awkwardly before leaving the room.
Unbeknownst to me Hange exited her lab and headed towards Levi's office right after I left.
