Between the sound of the calm waves hitting the shores and the singing of seagulls flying above the coast, there sat Choi Bomin, a boy in his early twenty that kept asking why it had to be this way, to be born this way. No one to listen to him now; only the sands glittering beneath him could. This
beach had always been his number one place of comfort whenever things got hard. And now was not an exception.

He sighed heavily as he threw himself back, letting his grey unbuttoned shirt be bathed in sand, closing his eyes, not bothering to see the mesmerizing scene of the sky in a mix of red and dark purple colors. It was
really soothing to leave everything behind, and just to be with himself. He only wanted to be alone, not to be constantly compared and told.

Yes, that was his case of solemn child and teenagehood. Being a younger brother of Choi Sungyoon wasn’t an easy matter, especially with someone like his father to be always around. It wasn’t just enough to witness how far out of your league Choi Sungyoon was, the constant pressures and
comparisons Bomin got from his father had gotten a lot worse ever since Mrs. Choi got out of the picture.

While he did know that his brother surely loved him, and he loved his brother too, it was always inevitable how your inner devil whispered to your heart on how depressing and frustrating your life was. In the end, there was always this small part inside him that hated his brother and himself; blaming no one for his lost happiness. Even when Sungyoon had already gone aboard to continue his study, instead of stopping, everything just got harsher. It was always painful for him to have to stay with his father for now. That being said, he couldn’t always seem to cry, as if he already could accept his fate as it was. He was just sad; crying in silence and agony, but fully aware that there was no quick escape from this situation.

“I know you’d be here.”

Albeit surprised, Bomin still managed to be calm enough not to respond roughly to the familiar voice. He opened his eyes slowly and could see Jibeom hovering over him. “Jibeom?” he asked, “How… and why are you here?”

“I’m worried about you of course, what do you mean?” he said, as a flutter of refreshing zephyr blew on his dark brown hair. “We have been together for a year now, it’s not hard to find you when things go this way.”

Bomin was about to sit up before Jibeom stopped him and asked if he could lie down next to him. After a second of pause, Bomin answered and the latter didn’t hesitate to do so. “I’m quite used to your not replying my
texts and picking up my calls,” Jibeom said soon as his pants and hoodie made contact with the brisk sand.

“Sorry,” Bomin said, exhaling in guilt.

“What? No, don’t be sorry, you didn’t do anything wrong,” Jibeom quickly reprimanded, as it wasn’t in his intention to make him feel at fault. “It’s your way to get over it. Just do whatever you think is right, Bomin,” he continued, staring right at the darkening clouds on the sky while Bomin
turned his head to the side to grasp the side profile of his boyfriend.

“That includes this, if you don’t want me to be here, just tell me.”

“No,” Bomin answered quickly, “please stay.” Jibeom turned his head to the side as well to meet eyes with Bomin, in which they locked stares for a few good seconds, as if stars were twinkling in their eyes. “I’m so grateful for you to always be there for me,” Bomin continued, turning his head back
facing the sky, but now with eyes open.

Memories of Jibeom from the past years, including the times when they weren’t a thing yet, flashed in his head. Indeed, he didn’t tell lie when he said that. “I would’ve never asked for someone any better.”
