*Maya just go to work! It's only a 24-hour shift. You have had those before. Even when everybody hated you. It can not be worse than in those times. No need to god damn worry.*
Maya was lost in her thoughts again and they were certainly not pleasant. She was scared about the upcoming shift. Something changed with the atmosphere at the station. Like some big secret was let loose. Everyone was different. Even with those thoughts, she decided to go on a run. Of course, she did. She doesn't know another routine. It's the only way not to get fat just keep running and never stop. At least that was her way of thinking.
"Maya?" Someone's calling her name nervously. "Maya, bella where are you?" It was Carina who else would it be. No one looks for her besides Carina. But why did she sound so nervous? Did something happen? Did someone die? "Babeee!" Maya screamed with an itchy throat. Her throat was hurting terribly from all the damaging throwing up but in her mind, she didn't have a choice. It was all she could think of doing.
About ten seconds later the bedroom door was slammed open. The room in which Maya was getting ready for her usual before-shift run. Carina stepped in. She looked anxious and worried. "There you are. Come here!" Maya obeyed and let Carina pull her into a tight hug. "Is everything ok? I was just on my way to work. Do you need anything?" Maya asked. Though she did not get a reply and Carina wouldn't loosen the hug. At this point, Maya started to get worried. She let Carina hug her but she really wanted to know what the hell was going on.
The hug lasted long until Carina finally pulled away. Maya wanted to proceed getting ready when her girlfriend abruptly pulled her hand. "Carina, what are you doing? Where are we-" her sentence was cut short by a placed hand on her mouth. Carina was trying to shush her.
"Just sit, ok?" Maya nodded slightly then placed herself on the big couch in the living room. Carina kneeled in front of her, placing both her warm palms on Maya's knees. There was some kind of worry in her eyes which made Maya terribly uncomfortable.
Eventually, Carina opened her mouth and said the phrase no one ever wants to hear.
"Maya, we need to talk." She looked genuinely concerned. "I asked everyone at the station and we agreed. I also told them you won't be coming in today. So now we just talk."
There was only one thought crossing Maya's messy mind. *What the hell did she find out?*
