Desai stood in shock as Thomas shook his head looking at her as if he had zero clues who she was or for that matter why she would be there. This was worse than she had thought. "I'll be right back," she said as she hurriedly left the room. Once at the nurses' station, she informed Thomas's nursing crew of the new development and asked that Dr. Walters be notified immediately.

She took more than a few deep breaths to steady herself before re-entering Thomas's room. Squaring her shoulders, she was smiling warmly when she came back in then frowned as Thomas told her, "Luke has told me that we are married and have been for almost three years and that we have four children. I do apologize but I don't remember you or the children." And I cannot imagine why. She was beautiful. And clearly hurt by his words. Her face was so expressive. For some reason that made him angry. At himself.

"Tom, would you like a coffee? They've said you can have whatever you want," Luke asked giving Desai a look of compassion.

"Yes, please," he said.

"Desai, do you still take yours blond and sweet?"

"I do," she said as she added, "Like my men."

A pain fluttered through Thomas's head as he saw in his mind female hands holding a large bouquet of yellow roses in front of a beautiful blue dress and he shook it trying to get it to go away. Desai noticed his expression and asked, "Are you in pain?"

"A little, but I'm not sure if it's from the incision or something else." He tried to smile reassuringly at her.

"Thomas –"

"I don't mean to be rude but why do you call me Thomas?"

"I asked you on our first date and you gave me permission. I'm the only one who does. If it bothers you I will do my level best to start calling you Tom."

"No, when I hear it – when you say it – I like it. Which is odd."

He smiled when she smiled at him. He felt an unusual feeling on his left hand and saw the wedding band. Desai noticed him looking at it. "I put that on a little while ago. If you're not comfortable with wearing it ... I can keep it for you."

He twirled the ring on his finger looking at the design on it. "Celtic?"

"Yes, to honor your Scottish heritage." She was standing at the foot of the bed when she asked, "What's the last thing you remember?" as she took a seat on Thomas's left.

Dr. Walters entered just then and said, "I was just about to ask that same question. How are you feeling Mr. Hiddleston?"

"I was at my mum's and we were discussing my father's birthday celebration. And I feel okay considering that I don't remember this lovely woman being my wife or that we have four children."

"Mr. Hiddleston, when is the last time you remember? Month and year?"

"December 2020." He was rubbing his left wrist, it was apparent he missed his watch.
