Desai ended up driving home. Thomas had been too upset, once home she asked him for some help with her trunk that held all her journals. "Thomas, this is too heavy for me. Could – would you mind?"
"Not at all, love. Wow, you certainly have been busy writing. Do you write every day?"
"No, I don't have the time to do that much anymore. The children take up most of my time now, but that's okay. I love being a mother. And I make up for it during the time I do have. I've been writing a lot lately. Especially at night." She motioned to the trunk. "All the older journals are on bottom. I had thought about putting them in our library but was afraid that someone other than you or me might read them."
He smiled at the blush that covered her face. He loved it. Not many women still blushed like that. He asked her, "So what are we doing tonight for our date since it was sort of spur of the moment?"
"Well, we haven't done karaoke for a while, you feel like doing that? Or do you want to play billiards?"
"Here or somewhere else?" he asked.
"Most of the time it was here. We didn't like bothering Emma, or mum and Da' all the time so we made our own date nights including the children. There were times that Emma took two and Sarah took two which was great. The babes usually fall asleep around eight anyway. We would get them situated and then – many nights we would dance – talk. Whatever came to mind. But we always sang too. We were pretty much homebodies."
"Hey, loves," Diana said from the open doorway. "I'm going to head home and sleep in my own bed – at least for tonight. I have a key so if no one is up in the morning I'll let myself in." She held up a hand. "You two need to be alone. Have fun."
"I'll see you out, mum," Thomas offered as he walked his mother to the door.
"The two of you have fun," she said as she hugged each of them. "Tom, be nice. I don't think I've ever had to tell you that before," she said as she kissed his cheek.
"I will, mum. I feel I've disappointed you."
"No, son, never. Surprised me, yes. Goodnight love."
"Goodnight, mum."
Desai walked back into the living room checking on the children then decided to find something to watch on TV. Calling over her shoulder, "Thomas, what's good to watch?"
He sneaked up behind her and would have gotten away with his mischievousness if not for the children who gave him away calling for 'papa'.
She laughed as she turned to face him. They stood looking at each other and suddenly both of them were nervous. "What do you want to do," she asked.
Oh, he could think of several things he wanted to do. "I think that talking is what we both need. There's a lot about you that I have to – no – that I want to re-learn. To know again. I can see why I was attracted to you, to begin with. You're beautiful. Smart." He grinned, "Smarter than me."
