Desai was exhausted after talking to the police about what had happened just before, during, and after the crash. She got so frustrated at how long the investigator was taking to type it up she asked, "Sir, may I do that? I'm sorry I just have another appointment I need to get to."

Thomas sat trying not to laugh at her and the policeman. The poor man didn't know what to do. So he moved and allowed her to finish the report which he knew was detailed and accurate. She would do no less than have a perfect report. As he looked her over he had to admire how she took control of the situation and was briefly reminded of Kurt Wallander, she, of course, being Magnus.

Five minutes later she was finished. All questions answered and report typed up they left to see Thomas's neurosurgeon.

"I want to perform another CT scan, x-rays, and an EEG today, then if all is clear or no difference from the last one I'm almost sure that I can release you."

Three hours later after the scan, x-rays, EEG, and various blood tests. Thomas received the all-clear. There were no changes, everything showed that his brain was functioning as it should, therefore he was released but scheduled to see the doctor again in six months unless he felt otherwise. "I do want you to keep seeing your therapist."

"Don't you hate that gel they use for those electrodes?" Desai asked with a laugh as she wiped some gel from the back of his head as they headed outside.

"Yes," he said stopping at the car then leaning down so Desai could wipe the rest off.

"Now, I think you'll pass inspection." She laughed as she ruffled the back of his hair trying to make some semblance of how he had it before. "I think that'll do."

Of course, he smoothed it back down as he asked, "Where to love?" he nodded toward her. "I mean you look lovely, shame to waste that look on home. Let's go someplace special."

She smiled up at him, "Okay, earendel, surprise me. Wherever you want to go we shall."

"Have we ever eaten at Clos Maggiore?" he asked as he tucked a curl behind her ear.

"No," she said with a shake of her head releasing the curl back across her face.

A little while later with Desai still nervous about being in a car, they arrived in Covent Garden at Clos Maggiore. They were quickly seated in one of the corners away from everyone. Thomas moved his chair so that he could sit next to Desai. She could tell by his expression he was happy it showed in his eyes.

"It's like I'm rediscovering you all over again, darling." He searched her face his fingers fairly tingling to touch her. And why not? They were married, but that nagging memory from ... why do you still think about that? Why ruin a great, well a good day, with memories from when you were still trusting enough to show affection in public.

She smiled as she took a sip of her water. "I hope that's a good thing." She was about to say something else when Thomas touched her face and kissed her softly.
