It all starts at home, my mom is always at work, she is a nurse, so I rarely see her, my dad left us when I was very little, so I do not have many memories of him.
I work in a bar, it is the closest thing to where we live, I do not like the smell of alcohol or cigarettes but I had good pay.
It was a normal day; my partner behind the bar took the day that I was left alone for most of the night. We had our usual fights here and there and bathroom hookups. Most of the gear left a few minutes ago, leaving me to close the bar, the DJ booth was alone so I hooked up my phone to listen to music as I finished.
I was dancing and singing cleaning up some broken bottles and putting away the trash, I finished earlier than expected, I had to take out the trash, so I grabbed my coat, my keys, and the trash bags, walked into the alley through the back door and threw the garbage, a memory came to my mind of a handsome boy, but sadly we only made eye contact for a few seconds.
He had zero chance of seeing him again, even if he wanted to. I watched and started the long drive home to check the time on my phone, three in the morning. I smelled the fresh air and it helped me to clear my head, on my way home it started to rain hard in record time, if only the rain was passing through, I would not have cared, but it was very heavy rain.
I picked up my pace and slipped on something, my knees taking the most damage as I realized it had been a fragment of a broken bottle, my knees with scratches, and the palm of my hand with a deep wound that started to bleed.
I got to safety at a bus stop, I felt like a wet dog, it probably looked so too, I was waiting to see if it would stop or slow down, but it got worse. My butt was freezing. I had to keep walking, even if my knees and palms hurt, cars were passing me only to have some bad people throw puddles of dirty water at me. I slipped on something falling again on the wet and cold ground looking around me, behind my curtain of wet hair I saw something glowing in the dark, grabbing the strange object that turned out to be a skull ring, quite large, I tried it with my fingers but it was too big so I added it to my keychain, my hand was still bleeding, I walked a few steps, my hair was soaked, I was soaked from head to toe, walking a little more, I saw that I was almost home, I saw a puddle of water on the sidewalk but it didn't matter much to me, walking I thought of something like jumping and splashing water, why not? I was already wet.
Jumping and splashing as I walked until my foot suddenly sank spinning painfully.
-Ugh! Ouch, I turned my head to see some bushes shaking. A boy came out also very wet, I tried to get up but my foot was stuck, I could feel my clothes getting even wetter if possible, I turned around only to bump into someone. As you can see, gravity and I do not get along very well. I looked up; my hair was in the way.
-Sorry- I said from the ground just to try to get up again but failing when my ankle hurt, I could not see if it was a small hole or something because the puddle was deep and dark.
-Need help? A deep, hoarse voice said I turned my head looking up only to see a familiar face. "If it's not a bother please." He chuckled and offered a hand, I took it, tugged it, and felt my ankle scrape the edge of the concrete hole, and a painful moan left my lips.
-You really got stuck huh? He said and took the phone out of him with a flashlight "No, please, I don't want to ruin your phone." He sees me and kneels with me. It is waterproof, and it was already wet. I was looking for something when I heard you scream. I had a hard time seeing it, but I can see the water going into the hole. He grabbed my ankle and twisted it. I pulled it out, he hurt but at least I was not trapped anymore. "Thank you." I got up with his help. "You're bleeding." I turned to see my ankle nothing but a few red scratches. I looked at him curiously only for him to point the flashlight towards where the water looked a little red. I looked at myself and then I remembered my hand.- I slipped before, don't worry, thank you very much.- I looked up and still couldn't understand where I had seen it.- You're welcome-. he smiled "Maybe I can help you find what you lost?" - I asked putting a lock of hair behind my ear. -It's going to be impossible to find it, it's a ring.- I looked at it and he took me by the shoulder.-I don't think it's a good idea for you either to be here, it's late and you've hurt yourself, maybe next time you won't be so lucky, lightning can strike you.
