~4 years later~

I awoke at the sound of my alarm clock. Amelia and I had been together for the past four years. We would travel the country whenever we could. Usually, my boss let me take a month off during the summer when Eudora wasn't in school anymore.

We moved out to Colorado after I graduated from school. Amelia thought it would be better for us. She also had family that moved out here when they lost their land to Damien's pack over a hundred years ago.

The merfolk had stopped trying to capture me months after my mom took over. According to my dad, my mother had convinced them to spare me, probably in exchange for her to become their new queen. She visits my dad whenever she gets the chance; according to him, she's pregnant. And since I won't take over as the next queen, and neither will Eudora, she had no choice but to find another heir. I guess getting pregnant was the easiest way.

"Morning, sleepyhead!" Amelia shouted as she turned on the lights. I groaned in annoyance. My eyes still need to adjust to the light.

"Turn off the lights!" I said as I hid under the covers.

"Geez, and I thought I was the vampire." She huffed. "I'm making us breakfast. For your birthday!"

"My birthday is on the 30th. We still have a week."

"A week? Check your phone! It is the 30th! Happy twentieth-two!"

"Is that why I kept hearing my phone buzz? It woke me up multiple times already." I groaned.

"Yes! Now come on, get ready so we can have some breakfast!" She said and left the room.

Twenty-twenty already? Ugh! I threw the blankets off and went to take a quick shower. I got dressed in my pajamas again and went downstairs to the kitchen where Amelia was cooking, and Eudora was sitting at her chair eating some fruit.

"What are you making?" I asked as I poured myself a cup of coffee, gave Eudora a bunch of kisses, and sat at the table.

"It's called Spinach Frittata. My brother gave me the recipe. He said he made it for Melissa, and she loved it." Melissa and I talk regularly. She is currently pregnant with her first child. She moved in with Luther and would visit the pack regularly. Amy is pregnant with her second child. And Mike and his mate have no kids yet.

Damien, last I heard. He was still single. He has dated a few girls, but he never wanted anything serious. He has kept busy now that he's Alpha and doesn't have time for himself. I missed him the most. I feel that the longer he and I are apart, the more miserable I become. I love Amelia, she's a great person, and I enjoy her company, but a part of me will never stop loving Damien.

"Tell me how it is. Hopefully, I got the recipe right." Amelia said as she put a plate in front of me. It looked like a piece of pie but was an omelet-style dish with spinach and cheese. I bit into it, and it was so good, so fluffy and cheesy. Amelia served herself a plate, and we ate in silence. She has been quiet since she last talked to her brother. I asked her if something had happened, and she always said no, that everything was fine, but I knew she was lying. Something was bothering her. She never liked to admit it.

"It's so good! You should cook this more often!" I said, finishing my breakfast. "We going out later today? For my birthday?"

"We can! We can go to your favorite restaurant if you want." She replied. Amelia and I didn't go out to each much, but whenever we did, it was always to the restaurant a block away from us.
