I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm. I had difficulties sleeping last night. I dreamt about Damien last night, not sure why. Since making eye contact yesterday I've had this weird feeling of overwhelming joy and I felt lonely when he wasn't near me. And the way his eyes changed color. Doesn't that only happen when they lay their eyes on their mate? Was it possible that I-?

"Hurry up Nex! You're going to be late!" My mom yelled from downstairs interrupting my thoughts.

"Ughh! I have an hour until school starts and it's less than a ten-minute walk." I grunted pulling the covers off and getting out of bed. I rubbed my sleepy eyes and made my way to the bathroom. Too lazy to shower I brushed my teeth and washed my face. "I look like shit today," I said throwing my hair in a messy bun. I had bags under my eyes from the lack of sleep I got last night.

"Stupid Damien, showing up in my dreams," I mumbled as I picked out my outfit for today. It was a cute red and black shirt and a pair of jeans.

"We're having squid tonight." My mom said as I walked down the stairs.

"Oh? Is there a special occasion today?" I asked putting my shoes on. Squid was one of those special occasion meals.

She looked at me raising an eyebrow. "Really? Did you forget? It's your dad's birthday today. Where is your head today girl?"

"Oh. Shit." How could I forget my dad's birthday? I looked at my phone and had a reminder saying Dad's Birthday "Sorry Mom, I couldn't sleep last night."

"What's wrong? Something keeping you up?" She asked concerned.

"First day of school nerves maybe." I lied.

"I'm sorry hun, I know we move a lot, but trust me, it's for your good." I didn't understand what she meant by "For your good." Did she think I liked moving around the country? Did she realize how hard it was to make friends?

"Mom, can I ask you a weird question about wolves?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"Well, I have this friend, right? And she's positive she might've found her mate, but she's not sure."

She gave me a puzzled look wondering where I was going with this. She probably thought I was talking about myself. Finally after a minute she spoke. "Well, from what I have read or heard, wolves can sniff out their mates. When they met face to face their eyes will change color and they'll establish a sort of connection that bonds them together, they'll be able to feel each other's emotions when they are close by, and when they mate and mark each other that connection will grow stronger, and they can even read each other's minds. But who knows."

"Sounds. Romantic." I muttered under my breath.

"Sounds like horseshit. Now hurry up and get your ass to school, I'm be home all day cooking and prepping for your dad's birthday." My mom shouted pushing me out the door.

"Alright, I love you mo-" She slammed the door in my face before I could finish. "Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today." I sighed making my way to school. Feel each other's emotions, I might enjoy this. I said repeating my mom's words almost in a teasing way. I needed to know for sure that I am his mate, maybe I can use this to confirm my suspicions.

Amy was waiting for me at the school entrance. She said she'll be able to take me to my first class since I didn't know where it was.

"I have AP Biology school with Ms. Jay," I said looking at my schedule.

"Oh that's wonderful, Melissa has AP Bio with you." She squealed. Melissa was Amy's best friend. Also a wolf, she had light brown shoulder-length hair, brown eyes, and was about 5'5. Amy introduced us during lunch. She was very pretty, and guys were constantly flirting with her, but you could tell she didn't want anything to do with them. She was waiting for her mate.
