Chapter 11

~DAMIEN POV~

"I see you're sleeping in the guest room today. Why is that?" My mother questioned me when she saw me carrying a blanket into the guest room. Nexy was fast asleep on my bed. It wasn't appropriate for us to sleep together, but I could at least keep her safe here.

"Just for tonight," I replied, hoping she'll go to bed.

"Tasha told me. The human girl you brought in here is your mate." She let out a frustrated sigh.

"Of course she did," I muttered. My mother always had a soft spot for Tasha. I never knew why, though.

"Your father and I have decided that Tasha will be the next Luna." She began. Here we go again. "We cannot have a human Luna. Can you imagine the embarrassment? You come from a long line of Alphas. We got more Alphas in our family than all the other packs. Your uncles are Alphas. Your cousins are Alphas-"

"Just get to the point so I can go to sleep." I cut her off. She reminded me of this all the time. I was tired of hearing it.

"You will reject her and make Tasha your mate." She spoke.

"No."

"Oh, you don't have a choice." She said, crossing her arms. "If you don't do it, I will deem you unworthy of the Alpha title. You have plenty of cousins on your father's side who will gladly take your place. Might even make Jaxon the new Alpha."

Was she serious? Deem me unworthy? I knew it was her decision, not my father's. But he always did whatever she said to make her happy.

"I wouldn't have cared if the Moon Goddess paired you with any of the she-wolves in the pack. But a human? Of all fucking things?!" She continued shaking her head. "Tasha will be a good substitute. After all, she's a rogue and will be mateless."

"You want me to decide between my mate and my Alpha title? Just when I thought you couldn't get any worse." Did she need to understand how vital the mate bond was? I know she's frustrated. I was frustrated when I found out that my mate was human. But being around her made me feel complete. "My wolf isn't going to mark another she-wolf, and you know it."

"He doesn't have much of a choice. Otherwise, I will have your title revoked and kicked from this pack. Understand?!" She shouted.

Revoke my title and kick me out for wanting to be with my mate? The one, the Moon Goddess, chose for me? Was she insane? I wanted to tell her to do it and that I'd rather be with her. But my pack came first. "Fine. Tasha will be the next Luna. I'm going to bed. Goodnight." I shut the door in her face before she could say anything else.

My wolf whimpered at the thought of rejecting her. Especially after how happy he was with her. How happy we both were.

You can't reject her. She's our mate. He whimpered.

What else can we do? Accept her, lose our Alpha title, and be kicked out of the pack? You know she can do that. I sighed. I knew my mother was capable of a lot of things. But to kick her son out?

My mother was always a traditionalist. She did everything by the book but was going against the Moons Goddess's wishes this time.

My wolf whimpered, not knowing what to do either. He wanted his mate, but to be labeled as unworthy to be Alpha would bring shame and embarrassment to him, even if it was untrue. I also knew the other Alphas wouldn't take us in, either.

I don't know what to do. I said to him. I was angry. Angry at my mother for making us choose between her and my title and angry at myself for not knowing how to fight back against her.
