It's been a week since Amelia and I first kissed. It felt so strange at first, but now it became more normal. I would still recoil at her touch, feeling unwelcoming, but my body always froze.

That was for the best. I had to move on from Damien and needed him to move on as well.

A notification on my phone startled me as I finished getting dressed. I checked my phone, and it was Bryan.

Hey, doll! We'll be there tomorrow! Miss you already! 😘 It read, along with a selfie of him and Eudora. That was the second time he's ever sent me a picture of her. She looked so happy with her little toy and her ducky blanket.

She looks just like him. I took a deep breath putting my phone down. I was starting to regret my decision.

~AMELIA POV~

"The mutts are here," Luther said, sitting at the kitchen table. They would visit their beach house every year to celebrate Damien's birthday. Unfortunately, that beach house was only two houses from us. What made things worse was their beach house was still in pack territory.

"I should pay them a visit." I sighed, getting up. Something was troubling me. Something that maybe they knew. And it involved a certain someone. Nexy.

When I met her, she seemed different. Unique almost. I thought she was just another human, but as we started talking and hanging out more, it became clear she wasn't. What was she? I had no clue, and she wasn't telling.

In fact, for the past two weeks, she's been playing dumb. Pretending she doesn't know what I'm talking about. But her hair. Her fucking hair. Where have I seen that shade of dark red before?

I have been around for over three hundred years. I've met many wolves, vampires, witches, and even a few mermaids. But I couldn't place my finger on what she was. Her dad was human. But her mom left before I had a chance to meet her. But I knew a certain group who might know what she was. After all, she had told me that she used to be best friends with Amy and Melissa until they had fallen out. If anyone knew what she was, it was them.

"You sure that's a good idea?" Luther asked.

"No. But I need answers." I said and walked out. I made my way through the annoying sand toward their house. I, for one, was glad the whole damn pack wasn't here. Damien's eighteen birthday was in three days. How I managed to remember his damn birthday? No clue. But I did.

I got to his house and knocked on the door. A guy answered that I recognized as his next Gamma. Luca, I believe his name is. He looked at me and frowned.

"Amelia," Damien said, taking a deep breath. "What an unpleasant surprise."

Damien was sitting on the couch next to Mike, and across from them were Amy and Melissa. None looked too happy to see me. One person I didn't see was his mate. How odd. He never brought her anywhere.

"The feeling is mutual, Damien. I see your little matey isn't here." I said as Luca closed the door behind me.

"What can I do for you, Amelia? I know you're not here to drop off my birthday present." Damien said.

"I need some help, you see." I began. Damien raised an eyebrow at me. "I need to borrow your dog's nose for a bit. Sniff somebody out. Find out what they are."

"Who?" Damien asked.

"Nexy."

His body immediately tensed when I said her name. Is she a sour topic for him? "What do you mean by that?" He asked.

"Well, for starters. Nexy not human." I blurted out. I expected him to say some smart-ass comment, but he said nothing. He looked stunned, and then he turned to Amy and Melissa and frowned.
