"here, drink this."
the ravenette handed the boy next to him a glass full to the cork with bright orange liquid, bubbling and swirling in intricate patterns within itself. the ladder held his hand out and the bottle was pressed into his palm
karl took the cork out and brought it to his face, sniffing the liquid and scrunching his nose when the strong scent hit his nose. he looked back up at sapnap for confirmation.
"it's better if you chug it- you don't really taste anything."
karl noticed the sparkle of anticipation and excitement in sapnap's eyes as he waited. his own excitement bubbled up just from the sight- he wasnt even sure what they were doing.
"i hope youre right," the brunette said, reluctantly eyeing the drink before holding his nose and tipping his head back to down the potion as quick as possible.
it tasted like a red hot jawbreaker and it burned a little as it when down his throat- the pain swiftly replaced with a tingling sensation before dissipating completely. when he finished the last drink, he winced slightly as it went down. he pulled the smooth glass away from his lips, handing it back to sapnap as he swayed a bit, dazed for a second as the potion took effect.
his mind unfazed itself after his body had adjusted to the new attribute and he had enough sense to put two and two together.
"that tasted spicy, and we're in the nether. fire resistance?"
sapnap nodded slowly, looking slightly distracted. he stepped forward and hooked a finger through karl's belt loop. he pulled the brunette closer till their bodies were flush, his warm breath tickling karl's cheeks as he studied the smaller's wide eyes through half-lidded ones.
karl felt a heat creep up his chest, slowly making its way to his cheeks the longer sapnap stared at him.
after an agonizingly long and mildly embarrassing eye contact sapnap brought a hand up, swiping some stray drops of bright orange liquid from the corner of karl's mouth.
"you missed some," he commented, a sly grin on his face as he watched karl's cheeks grow a bright red hue.
"i-i, um, i uh-"
"do you trust me?"
the hand that held karl's belt loop snaked its way around his waist, large hand resting on the small of his back, still holding them flush with each other.
karl coughed, trying to figure out how to use words again.
"o-of course. we're engaged sapnap, id trust you with my life."
"you're 'engaged' to alex too," he muttered, leaning forward till his breath brushed over karl's ear, sending a shudder down the ladder's spine.
"alex isnt you," the brunette almost whispered, hands ghosting up the other's arms to finally wrap around his neck as his eyes fluttered closed.
sapnap grinned mischievously, satisfied with karl's response. he pulled back so he could look into karl's bright caramel colored eyes as they slowly opened to look at him curiously.
"you'd trust me with your life huh?"
"what are you-"
he was cut off by an abrupt pit in his stomach as sapnap pushed him off the edge of the nettherack bridge.
sapnap's plastered smile somehow got larger as he dove after the boy.
karl screamed as the wind rushed past his ears, whipping his hair violently around his face and pushing his hoodie up to expose his stomach as he free-fell.
he stopped screaming, feeling like the air had been ripped from his lungs. he screwed his eyes shut in fear until he felt hands gingerly wrap around his wrists and pull them down.
he opened them slightly to find the other boy grinning wildly, a feral and adrenaline rushed look lighting up his eyes as he held karl's wrists out either side of them.
karl almost forgot they were plummeting towards a large pit of lava what with the way that animalistic look made his heart race and ripped apart any coherent thoughts.
sapnap laughed, and karl found himself smiling too.
the fall was kind of peaceful if you chased the high instead of focusing on the descent.
"hold your breath!"
karl just barely heard sapnap over the air, but he obeyed, sucking in a large breath just in time for sapnap to pull him to his chest as they fell feet-first into the lava, splashing lava so far around that striders on land felt drops of it hit them.
karl's eyes were squeezed shut, but he felt sapnap's hands trail down his arms to find his hands, then pulling him in the direction he assumed was up.
the lava around him felt more like a pleasant hot tub than molten rock that wouldve killed him if he hadnt drank that potion.
the potion!
he felt himself break the surface of the liquid just as he felt like he was running out of air.
he inhaled and opened his eyes, looking around for sapnap.
the ravenette was beside him, laughing giddily as he slicked his wet hair back.
"you didnt drink a potion!" karl exclaimed, swimming over to cling to sapnap, placing his hands on either side of his face and forcing him to look at him.
sapnap's grin was wide as his dark hair dripped lava that ran down his face. "dont worry," he pointed at himself with a thumb, sticking his chin out proudly, "fire demon."
holy honk he looked good right now.
"whyre you looking at me like that?" concern entered his eyes as he placed his hands on either side of karl's waist, "are you alright? was that too much?"
karl shook his head, grabbing a handful of sapnap's shirt and roughly pulling his face to his own.
his lips hovered just over sapnap's and he noted how sapnap's breathing hitched as he looked at karl's lips.
"youre stupid," karl muttered, right before he pressed their lips together. it took sapnap a moment to register when it happened, but when he realized he eagerly kissed back. he'd been waiting for this for a while.
sapnap's hands moved to karl's lower back, finding the hem of the large sweater and slipping under it, resting his hands on karl's bare skin and pulling him as close as he possibly could.
karl's arms wound around sapnap, one tangling itself in sapnap's hair and pulling him closer, deepening the kiss.
sapnap pulled away first, breathing a little hard as he used one of his hands to push his hair out of his face again.
he leaned forward, pressing his forehead to karl's and taking in the sight of a flustered, blushing, and panting boy with beautiful, almost intoxicating eyes right there next to him.
karl let his eyes fall to sapnap's lips again, but as he went in for another kiss sapnap leaned away, a smug grin when karl sent an empty glare at him.
"as much as id love to do this more, your fire resistance potion doesnt last forever baby."
