Questions have answers, it just may be hard to get it. They can be obvious or confusing but they’re there. If it’s not the answer you want, you can’t change that. No matter how hard you try.

Nobody ever tells you how hard it is to sleep with monster hearing. You can hear almost everything, even the little stuff. The crickets outside, the little bumps in the night, even your own breathing.

It is absolute hell for me to try to go to sleep, I’m pretty sure I could hear my own heartbeat if I had one. I haven’t searched for the medicine in this house yet so I figured now was a good idea to search for some melatonin.

It was really late, around 4 AM. I got out of the room and started searching in the kitchen. If this guy is a light sleeper then I just woke him up but that’s good in an apocalypse. If he’s a heavy sleeper then he’s still asleep and most likely gonna die if he ever camps outside. Not really my problem either way.

I found them in a cabinet at the top shelf when I just heard rustling in the living room, I just pawned it off as broken ankle dude. I should really learn his name.

I got out of the kitchen with the pills and some water. I can’t see stuff out of the corner of my eye like I used to but I hear him groaning in exhaustion so he’s obviously awake. I just try to down these pills before he can start talking. If he starts asking questions again, I’m gonna either strangle him or ask him questions.

“What the hell are you doing?” Reasonable question when I probably woke him up. Not one I’m willing to answer correctly.

“Snowboarding.” I answer sarcastically, not giving him a glance while drinking water since I can’t dry swallow pills. He was getting mad again, to which I ignored. It was when he tried standing up that I had to take it seriously. At least a little.

“What the hell are YOU doing? Stop straining your foot like that.” I walked over to him with the two bottles in hand, one with medicine and one with water.

“Just go back to sleep before you annoy me.” He looked at the medicine first, reading it just in case. But it was when he looked at the water like it was gonna kill him that got me confused.

“It’s not gonna turn you into a zombie. If you’re a germaphobe then just dry-swallow it. I’m not getting you another cup.” He looked at me and back at the cup. Then he just sighed and grabbed it.

Grateful, I started to leave.

“What’s your name?” I looked back at him to see that he was looking back at me. I figured, that was one of the normal questions that few people ask me, I should actually answer this one. With a real answer.

“Diane.” He seemed satisfied with the answer so I linger a little when he talks.

“Tommy, I’m Tommy.” He smiled at me so I smiled back a little. I walk back to my room and finally I feel tired but I just knew I was gonna wake up late. Hopefully he can make breakfast for himself… Scratch that, hopefully he doesn’t use all my shit for himself.

Normally I would wake up to birds chirping or the sun on my face or even just me hearing the leaves moving outside. I just had to wake up to this curious bastard.

My right arm was outside the blanket I was using as I was asleep. My door was open since I wanted to make sure that I could hear him. I wake up to this guy, kneeling by the bed, looking at my wrist. Yeah sure, it’s cool but you don’t stare at it when the person is sleeping. He raised his hand, almost reaching towards it when I woke up and used it to prop myself up on the bed. He almost jumped back across the room when I moved. I was slightly mad at him but I couldn’t exactly do anything except scare him and I was already doing a great job at that.
