Her Decision

I have to answer for myself. Nobody else can step in. I have to know what is best for me because if anybody should know that, it has to be myself.

Dr. Rilee looked at Diane with a bit of concern and confusion with her past question.

"As far as I know, zombies ruined my life. You are not mindlessly lunging forward at anything with a heartbeat or craving for flesh and brains so you are not in that category." Dr. Rilee started to clean up whatever had been moved or used in the room, they wouldn't come back to this specific area for anymore tests.

"How?"

The woman froze at the question, knowing what Diane was asking.

"How'd they ruin your life if you're here?"

Diane could guess in a few ways how the apocalypse affected everybody else outside of America but figured that asking the question itself would be easier.

Dr. Rilee didn't seem to like the question because of the lack of an answer but ended up giving her a response.

"I have family there. That's all."
Valid. What else would it be if not loved ones?

Instead of prying for a more detailed answer, Diane merely followed when Dr. Rilee motioned for her to get out of the room, saying to go find Mrs. Bequette and that she shouldn't be far from them.

"So, you pass that hearing test with flying colors?" Schlatt sarcastically asked, he already knew the result from the start.

"I guess so. Bequette's been over here recently, I think." Diane pointed to a short corridor.

Where they were, it was all pristine and clean. It wasn't all empty though. A great number of staff filled the big open spaces with countertops and different chemicals. None of them stared or came close enough to draw attention but it was the tiniest bit obvious that Diane was, once again, in the spotlight.

Diane either didn't care enough or didn't seem to notice since she walked wherever she pleased. She knew that she was the ‘VIP’ in a sense.

Opening up the double doors, Diane instantly knew that Bequette was in this area. It wasn’t small, in fact, it was big like a school cafeteria. There even seemed to be some sound from some type of video playing in the background. Of course, there’d be some sort of display screen here, it was a big place.

“Oh yeah, she’s here.” Diane said, confident in her tone as she walked a bit faster to see exactly where the woman was. The others were never far behind so they always saw the teenager.

Diane froze after seeing what the wall was supposedly hiding from her. The boys could’ve guessed why, waiting for them, she saw Bequette, those types of guesses.

“Hesitation is clear when going for the initial attack but that is to be expected.”
But none of them were even close when Diane suddenly saw herself stab her father in the head.

“She then focuses on the knife, making sure to follow through with her action while ignoring the pain of the bite. Priorities were organized.”

The group finally saw what was projected on the huge screen. It took all of them a good second to figure out that it was Diane but it took another to figure out that the zombie with her was her dad.

Immediately, Schlatt stood in front of Diane, who’s fangs were slowly growing to a small length. She didn’t realize that she’d been staring at the screen the entire time.

“Next, it becomes clear to her that death is imminent and then… I don’t know what prompted her to grab the syringe but,” This lady in an outfit, similar to Mrs. Bequette’s but not quite, turned around to the assistant next to her. “I suppose we ask when she comes around.”
