Nostalgia

The beach always had that smell that even if your nose was stuffed, you could tell where you were. Now imagine how nostalgic it must be for someone who hasn't gone in over a year yet can smell the scent a hundred times over.

(~’'’~)

The cars were now filled with something other than silence or small conversations.

There was regular radio music playing through the radio with little to no static.

Turns out that this radio station was the only one that worked because very few electrical towers worked in Miami while none worked in Orlando.

You could hear people call through with requests for a minute or two before a song would play.

After every other song, a masculine voice would talk about how to be careful for fanged zombies cause those were supposedly more common around here. They would talk about how listeners could call and how that meant you could possibly call your family.

It only worked in Miami or where electrical towers were somewhat working and you couldn't text because it would take time to send a message depending on the amount of text while a call would send signals that were barely at the limit of how much service the towers had.

The calls didn't work outside of the country or the rest of America other than the states touching Florida.

Sapnap called his family and they didn't pick up. Skeppy called his sister and she didn't pick up. Diane and Dream didn't bother.

Everybody else was either from another country or wasn't that close to Florida. A lot of the group didn't even bring their phones with them because they were normally useless.

Let's just say, the music was a relief to everybody's ears as Fundy's car blasted it, Phil's car was a bit lower only because it was in the middle and Diane's car had the volume at a respectable tone.

Tommy had to use the bathroom and so they stopped at another gas station though it wasn't as nice as the Wawa they were at an hour ago but Tommy didn't really care, he just had to shit.

They stopped and parked in front of it rather than inside, under the canopy and next to the gas stations since it was supposed to be quick.

Of course, Tommy being Tommy, he took an extra three minutes while almost everybody got out of the cars to stretch their legs. Diane was sitting on the trunk of a car, just looking around and making sure nothing was in the vicinity.

It was when the bathroom door finally opened and Tommy's hands were shaking, trying to get dry faster.

"There weren't no toilet paper in there!" He complained out loud when Diane sat up straight and looked behind her. To the road they were gonna drive down.

She quickly stood up, walked to the roof of the car and put her hand above her eyes to block the sun from obscuring her vision. Everybody looked up to her from the commotion she made, wondering what was wrong yet already looking to where she set her gaze.

"What's up?" Phil looked up to her to see her face contorted in disgust and concentration.

"It's the smell, the scent. It's up ahead. We gotta get going." Diane said before jumping off the car and got on the wheel with everybody else following.

"Wait, it's slow as fuck. Why do we need to hurry up?" Sapnap asked through the walkie talkie to which Diane picked up.

"Those zombies may be slower than the other kind and me but they're persistent as hell. As long as they can hear the car or a heartbeat or smell even the trace of gasoline, they'll follow. They've got nothing better to do." Diane spoke as she sped up and the other cars followed suit.
