Chapter 1

Charity Andres

SIMPLENG babae lang si Charry. Lima silang magkakapatid at nag-iisa siyang babae. She's not fortunate unlike her bestfriend— Psyche, in terms of material things. Pero maswerte naman siya sa pagmamahal mula sa pamilya.

Nag-loan siya tatlong taon ang nakalilipas para pambili ng lupain sa isla ng Sipalay. It's just a 5 hectares lot plus she bought a home lot few miles away from her farm. Fortunately, his father was a veteran farmer so she entrusted the farm in his hands and it went well. Mag-pipitong taon na rin siya sa kaniyang trabaho at wala na siyang balak pang lumipat. Permanente na ang kaniyang trabaho at nai-promote na rin siya sa posisyon bilang Social Work Officer II.

Medyo tinaasan na rin ang kaniyang sahod. She can tell their life is well. She's just 27 and she had more time to make her status even better. Her house was already done after years of constructing it. It has four rooms and two bathrooms. Hinay-hinay lang siya sa pagtustos noon sa bahay niya dahil mas mahalaga sa kaniya ang sakahan. Mas maayos ito kesa sa dati nilang bahay. Ang ipinatayo niyang bahay ay 'yong tipong bungalow at maituturing nang pang-middle class na uri ng tahanan. What matters to her is her family being intact anyway.

She can freely buy the clothes she wanted without worrying about the price. Not that she's fond of buying expensive clothes though. Dati kasi kahit gustong-gusto niya ay hindi niya binibili dahil may nakalaan na sa pera niya.

Her two older brothers were both married. While her two younger brothers were both employed and both of them were policemen. Wala pang balak mag-asawa dahil kagaya ni Charry, pamilya muna ang inuuna. Their parents were on their sixth decade of age but were healthy. Nakakatulong ang pagiging sobrang hirap nila noon dahil halos gulay ang kanilang kinakain. Hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay hindi sila gaanong kumakain ng karne maliban sa karne ng manok at isda.

Hindi siya palakaibigan dahil pinipili niya lang ang taong kakaibiganin niya. Ayos lang sa kaniya ang mapag-isa. Unlike Psyche who's kind of a talker and could make many friends in a snap. Hindi naman mailap si Charry, sadyang pihikan lamang siya.

Thankfully, hindi niya na naiisip pa si Paulo. Psyche helped her a lot by reminding her that she's just right there anytime for her. It's April and it's holy week. Naisipan niyang lumipad patungong Maynila para bisitahin si Psyche. Nagtuturo ito sa Xander University at dahil nga holy week, wala rin itong pasok.

Tinawagan niya si Psyche nang makalabas siya sa taxi. "Psy... andito ako sa labas ng bahay niyo."

Psyche has been expecting her arrival. She's happily married to someone she loves while Charry is almost 28 years old and still has no boyfriend. "Antayin mo 'ko d'yan." Anito sa kabilang linya.

Ilang sandali pa ay nabuksan ang gate. "Charry!!" Sigaw nito ng makita siya. Psyche is a very lively type of person while Charry is either lively or timid. Depende sa kaniyang mood.

Dahan-dahan siya sa pagkakayakap sa kaibigan dahil malaki na ang tiyan nito. She's six months happily pregnant. Nakakainggit para kay Charry pero umaasa siyang hahantong din siya sa ganoon sa tamang panahon. "Ang ganda mong buntis..." komento niya. It's true, Psyche looked even more blooming as ever. Sabi nila kapag blooming daw masyado ay babae ang magiging anak. Charry doesn't know if it's true or just a myth.

"Maganda naman ako lagi 'no!" Pabirong irap ni Psyche. "Tara sa loob." Panyaya nito. Psyche was a petite woman while Charry stood 5 feet and 6 inch tall.
