Interlude: The First Chapter

Taehyun rushed inside the widely opened gates; his chest heaving up and down, his brown hair bouncing messily because of the way he ran.

It was the first day of his college, and he'd be fucking late if his best friend didn't call him to ask why he hadn't arrived yet.

The brown-haired male took in the sight of the huge campus he was in. BHU was his dream, and he had managed to achieve a scholarship for this, he couldn't believe it was happening for real.

There were so many students scattered around the place, everyone with a different color of identity card strap to indicate their different years, making it easier to interact.

Taehyun smiled as his chest filled with warmth, but in the twinkling of an eye a blow of wind caused him to shiver. It was early January; a time when it regularly snows in South Korea. He quickly adjusted his muffler up to his nose to protect himself from the biting cold air.

"All the freshmen are requested to kindly be present at the main auditorium in 10 minutes for the orientation."

Taehyun heard the announcement through the speakers, a reminder for him to hurry. And as on cue, he opted to move faster, but then he had to stop when he suddenly noticed something in a corner.

The curious boy walked towards the fluffy white blob, he gasped when he caught a cat huddled up with its little kittens, shivering because of the weather.

"Oh no!" Taehyun crouched down, his expression falling when he took out his hands from his pockets to caress the poor animals, and they responded to him by snuggling closer for warmth.

He patted their heads as they continuously mewled in comfort. He knew he was already late and had to hurry but his fragile heart didn't let him abandon the cute babies. Likewise, he chewed on his lower lip, thinking of ways he could offer to help; he even contemplated taking off the warm muffler so they would at least have something. And the moment he was going to do that, a voice stopped him;

"You don't have anything else beside that lanky muffler."

Taehyun whipped his head towards his side, looking up through his brown bangs, his breath hitching because of the stranger who now approached him.

The black-haired male covered in all designer apparels crouched down by his side and did that suddenly made Taehyun insecure of his own appearance. However, that didn't allow the brunette to look away from the gorgeously flawless visual in front of him.

The male in question took off his comfy cardigan which seemed like the ones costing a fortune and wrapped it around the little family of cats to be comfortable, and paid no heed to his stares, quietly playing with the kittens as a soft smile tugged on the corner of his lips which was enough for Taehyun to melt inside.

Their slender fingers touched while the raven patted the mom cat's head, causing him to finally look at the other presence. Taehyun looked away, his hand coming up to cover more of his face as he worried it was already dusted in red— half because of the cold weather, and half because of how warm he felt.

"Freshman, huh?"

Taehyun only nodded.

"You wouldn't want to run late for your orientation. I think you should hurry." The stranger spoke in a genuinely concerned manner, causing the brunette to abruptly stand up and start walking.
