"This time you can throw away the letter. I wouldn't mind."
Beomgyu stared at the younger's retreating back with wide confused eyes.
He's lying... was the first thought that crossed his mind after hearing Taehyun out. Obviously it was past working hours unless he was on a night shift. But something about his tone was off, it felt as if he badly wanted the older to leave.
Beomgyu contemplated calling out the younger but then the bus driver interrupted his thoughts, "Young man, are you getting on the bus or not?"
He turned to the driver who had his eyebrows raised, he then looked back at Taehyun who was gradually getting farther.
Decidedly taking a step back, he bowed. "I'm sorry. You can leave without me."
The bus driver didn't wait anymore, he shut the doors and already went off. Beomgyu saw Taehyun halting for a few seconds only to fasten his pace.
He then noticed the younger's shoes; it was a matter of time that the shoe sole came off, and Taehyun also said there wouldn't be buses available later, which meant he'd have to walk the whole way wearing the old pair.
He jutted out his lips in a pout, thinking of the ways he could do something. His gaze fell upon a small store that was closing. Beomgyu again looked at Taehyun. If he made a move now, he could run faster to catch the younger.
Beomgyu crossed the street to make it quick to the store and stopped the owner.
"Excuse me, I need to buy a pair of shoes."
"Sorry it's time for me to close—" Beomgyu handed a good amount of cash that was more than sufficient for only one pair, leaving the owner astonished. He hastily grabbed a pair of Taehyun's size (he has it etched in his mind thanks to the countless times he's caressed the younger's feet) and came out of the store, bowing before running back to where he came from.
That's when he noticed the little snowflakes falling from the sky. It wasn't the first snow of the year but he felt happier. Because snow was meant to be enjoyed with the most loved one, and finally tonight was his time.
Speaking of which, he looked around to find Taehyun but sighed exasperatedly when he couldn't see the boy anymore. He took a few more steps forward, pacing faster, glancing around and then he noticed a figure crouching on the ground; seemingly tiny and smol.
There he is!! His face lit up with a big smile, his heart filling up with love as took longer strides but when he was close enough, he could actually hear the younger sobbing.
"Why are you crying??" It seemed like Taehyun couldn't hear him over the harshly blowing wind, and only loudened his cries, so much that it was starting to ache Beomgyu to witness him like that.
The paper bag of the shoes fell from his hands as he dropped to his knees behind Taehyun, bringing his arms up to hug the younger.
"Taehyun-ah, I haven't left you."
The younger let out a soft gasp, momentarily pausing. He turned his head around to meet Beomgyu's eyes, his own orbs blurry. The older wiped some of his stray tears along with the little snowflakes on his cheeks.
"Are you okay now?" Beomgyu slightly pulled away to bring the paper bag closer and take out the shoes. He looked up at the younger who had his doe eyes almost doubled in size, smiling before reaching for his legs to take off the old shoes and replace them with the new ones.
"Why are you still here...?" Taehyun finally asked when he was done tying the shoelaces.
"Hm? Oh, you said it'd take a while to—"
