L.A. 2 p.m.
Grayson POV –Okay, I’m stressed. This is the day my brother is marrying the woman of his dreams. The two of them are completely relaxed, though. “Why are you so stressed, Gray?” Ethan asked me this morning as I helped him get ready. “Everything is taken care of. If something goes wrong, it goes wrong. I don’t care. Y/n doesn’t care.
As long as we’re husband and wife at the end of the day.” He said while patting my back. Their love still amazes me every single day, just as their laid back attitude and the calming effect they seem to have on each other. Even though I sometimes wish my brother would be a bit more prepared, I admire that he has his priorities straight. He doesn’t care about the aesthetics. He doesn’t care about what other people think of him, as long as he and his girl are happy and healthy.
Ava walks back in the room. She looks stunning in a black skin tight dress. She has her air pods in and I can tell by the look on her face that she’s ticking off her to do list in her head. “Wow, wow, wow!” I say and it catches her attention. “You do know you’re not allowed to outshine the bride, right?” I add playfully and a smile appears on her face. “Stop it!” She says shyly as I walk up to her and wrap my arms around her waist.
I lean in to kiss her when a phone starts ringing. It’s not her phone, but it’s Y/n’s phone that Ava pulls out of her handbag. “Must be y/n’s parents.” She breathes before she answers the phone. Y/n gave her phone to Ava, just like Ethan gave his phone to me. They both don’t want to be distracted by their phones on their wedding day and it makes me smile again when I think about them prioritizing each other above anything else in this world. “Hello?” I hear Ava say distracted as she puts the phone on speaker while my lips are still inches away from hers.
The sexual tension is slowly but surely building between us and we’re both only listening to the caller with half an ear. “Hello, is this y/n?” The feminine voice says. I brush my thumb over Ava’s lip and see her swallow her lust. “Umm, yeah, yeah.” Ava says uninterested as I move my thumb away from her lip and gently kiss her. “Okay, great!” The feminine voice continues. “This is doctor Johnson. I’m calling back to discuss the blood results with you.”.
Ava instantly shoves me away and reaches for the phone. We look at each other in complete and utter shock. But before we can form a sentence and let the doctor know neither of us is y/n, doctor Johnson continues. “Luckily we didn’t find anything that worried us.” She says. “You seem very healthy.” Doctor Johnson continues. “But there was one thing that caught our eye. The hCG levels in your blood reveal that you are 10 weeks pregnant. Congratulations.” She adds and I see Ava’s jaw drop. My eyes widen and my heart stops. “Wh- what?!” Ava stutters. “You are 10 weeks pregnant.” The doctor repeats again.
“It’s important you come back in for a prenatal screen test as soon as possible. So I would advice you to contact us next week to make an appointment.” Doctor Johnson says. “O- Okay, thanks so much doctor!” Ava says before she ends the call.
My heart is beating out of my chest but my brain seems to have stopped working. Ava is still staring at me with a dropped jaw. “Y/n and Ethan..” She mumbles. “They are having a baby!” Ava says and I see tears well up in her eyes. Those words hit like a ton of bricks and I suddenly grasp what was said. “Oh my god!” I breathe and I feel an overwhelming amount of love and happiness grow in my body. I’ve never ever felt like this in my life. This is another kind of happiness and another kind of love. It’s a feeling I’ve never experienced before. “We need to go to y/n and tell her!” Ava squeals while fanning her eyes with her hands to stop the tears from falling. Y/n is in a hotel near the chapel, to get ready out of Ethan’s sight. I look at my watch and furrow my brows.
“We won’t make it in time to speak to her in private, before the ceremony.” I breathe. “We have to leave in 5 minutes to make it to the chapel on time.” I add. I thought my stress level was at its peak already 10 minutes ago. But now it seems to have entered an entire different dimension. “We need to tell Ethan now!” I yell and Ava forcefully puts her hand over my mouth. “No!” She whispers to my wide eyed, still in shock face. “This call was meant for y/n. Not for Ethan! He can’t know before she knows!” She breathes through her teeth as Ethan comes barging in. “What do you need to tell me? Is y/n okay?” He asks worried. He scrunches up his nose as he sees Ava and me in a wrestling position. With one hand over my mouth and her other hand wrapped around my neck. “Y/n is doing fine!” she smiles as she let’s go of my face.
Her eyes wander from Ethan to me. “No sex!” She mouths in my direction, threatening me with abstinence. My hands are itching and I bite my lip. Ava being so dominant makes me want to punish her. But this is not a good time. We’ve apparently got a secret to keep and a wedding to attend. “Y/n is okay.” I breathe in Ethan’s direction. Consciously trying to avoid his first question and I see he immediately relaxes.
Y/n is the most beautiful, glowing bride I have ever seen. I haven’t seen many brides, but still. Very beautiful. Ethan cried, when she walked down the aisle. Which made me cry as well and Ava honestly hasn’t stopped crying since she received that call from doctor Johnson.
Ethan has been observing Ava in the car ride over to the chapel. He knows something is off. “It’s an emotional day!” Ava explained. “My best friend is getting married!” She tried to assure Ethan about the reason where these tears are coming from. But the look on his face told me he was not buying it.
We’re at the wedding reception and the happy couple is being bombarded by friends and family who want to congratulate them. I’m looking at them from a safe distance and have never felt happier in my life. Ethan is beaming as he puts his arm around y/n’s waist to pull her close to him. She tilts her head back to look at her new husband and smiles shyly. Their state of zen, their magical connection makes it look like they’re floating inches from the ground.
My stress level is still peaking though. Cocktail hours starts in 20 minutes and Ava and I are frantically trying to figure out how we can make sure y/n doesn’t drink a drop of alcohol. “We can tell the bartenders not to serve alcohol to the bride.” I say in a desperate attempt to come up with a solution. Ava raises a brow. “And you think the bride goes to the bar herself? Y/n will be served by everyone around her.” She says. “We just need to tell them then!” I say as I grab Ava by her shoulders and gently shake her. I’m starting to lose my mind.
“What?! Now?! In the middle of their wedding day? With hundreds of guests looking over their shoulders?” Ava breathes as she playfully mirrors my behaviour and forcefully shakes me back and forth as well. I see Ethan looking over his shoulder and he locks eyes with me. His nose scrunches up again and I’m in a complete state of panic now. “Act normal!” I yell at Ava as I start swaying around from left to right with me holding Ava by the shoulders and Ava holding me by my shoulders, at arms length. “Gray, you know that this looks everything but normal, right?” She starts laughing. “People will actually think we dance like this!” She chuckles.
