Chapter 41: Back To Reality

*Y/n POV*

I stood above the tall castle, the tip of the spire overlooking the massive forest that seemed to sprawl out in every direction. Fira had been here once, I could feel her heart in the air.

I leaned over the edge of the roof, the spire at my back. I looked down onto the large stone bridge, upon which was a swarm of dark creatures. They seemed to move as one black crowd, a synchronized army of shadowy soldiers. Some were fatter, some smaller, some that flew on pairs of black wings.

And at the entrance of the castle I saw a group of men in shiny silver armor, brandishing swords and spears and bows. Their steel seemed to gleam blindingly in the sun, but it was useless against the Heartless.

I summoned Fira's keyblade, watching as it reflected the bright sunlight like a fire. I turned downward, the face that Sora made when I attacked her flashing through my mind.

"I'll make up for that." I whispered.

I took a step, out into open air. I let my weight lean forward, and then I felt wind rush by my face as I began falling towards the bridge.

Then, I reached out and snagged my keyblade on the shoulder of one of the flying Heartless. I used my momentum to twist around him, letting go and flying in an arch towards one of the fat Heartless.

I could hear the soldier talking excitedly, but couldn't make out any specifics over the sound of the Heartless. I landed on the fatty's shoulder and stabbed my keyblade at the base of it's neck, tearing it out and hearing it's scream.

I grabbed it's head and pushing it down, planting my feet into it's shoulders and riding it to the ground. It crushed three of the smaller Heartless, and I landed with a roll.

The remaining Heartless were surrounding me, now focused completely on me. Their numbers were dwindling into the teens now, with the first wave closing in on me rapidly.

I swung my keyblade horizontally at the first few, cutting them in half with a single swing. The next four were coming up behind me, leaping into the air to get the drop on me. I grabbed one out of the air and slammed it into the one next to it, before kicking the other two and watching them disappear.

The next wave was two large Heartless, pounding their fists. I ran at them, holding my keyblade with both hands. The first took a massive swing at me, and I leapt up to land on his arm. I was easily able to slice at its face, doing damage as I flipped over it. It managed to stay standing, and the second one tried to swipe me out of the air.

It slapped me to the ground, slamming my back against the stones. I forced myself to stand back up, as the two fatty's charged at me.

"Oh shit."

They got a running start, tackling towards me. In doing so, they managed to knock most of their companions off the bridge, but they were on a collision course for me. I stepped back onto the slightly raised ledge, and waited.

One second.

Two seconds.

Two and a half.

Two and three quarters.

NOW!

I leapt into the air, throwing my keyblade into the stone below me. It exploded in a ball of fire, blowing the edge of the bridge off and launching me further upwards. The fatty's weren't able to stop their momentum in time, and went hurtling off the edge into the moat below.

The last few Heartless were easy to dispatch, as they tried to escape. When they were finally done, I let my keyblade disapear and I turned towards the knights.

"Brave warrior!" The man with the shiniest armor, presumably the leading, fell to a kneel, "You have saved our lives!"

"No problem at all," I waved, "I was merely in the area and felt I could help."

"Please, you must come in and see our princess!"

"No no, I'm quite alright. I've actually got somewhere to..."

Suddenly I trailed off, something in the air caused me to stop. It was like a quiet voice, telling me that the castle was the right place to be.

"You know what? Why not?"
