i wished and waited,
phone in pocket,
how it sang
for a moment, i thought
it was a big dream
the way the wind whipped
whistled, whined, every tree
seemed as one, besides, i
couldn't tell the difference,
my vision isn't great,
and scared, i never dared to
let my eyes wander the dark
afraid what they'd find buried
beneath those merciless depths
so i looked at you.
and though i could barely
make out your eyes,
seldom the way your words
slipped, stumbled, scurried
from your lips, chapped, i
was almost sure,
i continued, knowing you
could certainly tell.
