Summer evening
I thought the air would be colder by now
Two bikes against the tree
As we stare over the rolling lake
I can't see much from here,
So I wonder what it looks like to you
Stolen glances, metre apart
and this makes three times this week
just one on one.
You know I like it this way,
Even if I stumble over words and jokes
and I think maybe you do too
as you smile and talk
your voice like blood, slick over my skin
it's smooth and steady and calming to listen to.
oh these summer evenings are the ones i like
