Dream and Techno are rivals, everyone knows that. But they were rivals long before the sbi family moved to the smp. Dream and techno were childhood friends, ever since they were 8, when dream would visit the sbi household, he would see little todler tommy. Dream absolutely adored tommy, tommy was just a adorable 3 year old. And every single time techno and dream would hang out, dream would be excited to see the little guy.
When dream was 17, he decided to go out on an adventure with george and sapnap, and never saw tommy or techno again. At the age of 20, he founded the country, Dream Smp. When dream heard that the sbi family would be moving to the dream smp, he was beyond excited to see little tommy grown up and his childhood frienemy technoblade.
But, of course things hadn't gone as planned, tommy had changed, he was no longer the child dream once adored, he was loud and impulsive but one thing that dream always adored about tommy was still present, tommy was still the determined person he was 5+ years ago. Dream didn't quite like the tommy now, though very rarely, when he saw tommy and tubbo together, tommy would go back to being the person he knew.
Dream would say he was jealous, jealous of how tommy could only be himself with tubbo, while with him tommy just shouted words like "Big D" "Green blob" "Pussy" etc etc. So dream started being a bit controlling. From not giving lmanberg independence to forcing tubbo to exile his best friend.
When tommy was in exile, it was like dream was his only friend, his only lifeline. Dream finally had gotten what he wanted, he wouldn't let any other person visit, pretended like everyone had abandoned tommy besides him. And tommy finally warmed up to him, he was acting more calm, less loud, sometimes depressing but dream just ignored that. Everything was falling together, dream was all tommy needed and dream was gonna make sure of that.
While all of this was happening, dream didn't realize how much of a villain he became. So, he helped techno blow up lmanberg, as it was oh so important to tommy, but tommy didn't need the nation, tommy just needed him and no one else. Soon after that, dream called tommy and tubbo to meet up with him, to kill tubbo and make tommy his little pupil.
(um btw no ship, it's all purely platonic and dream just wants to see the little child he saw when he was like 15, but dream just doesn't get that ppl change and stuff anyways pls no ship, they had a 5 year age difference and just N.O)
Dream brought tommy and tubbo to the underground base, where he had kept everything that everyone treasured. He realized that tommy was somehow like an anchor in the smp, and if he could have tommy on his side, everyone would automatically fall in line. Just as he was about to kill tubbo, almost all of the smp came in through the nether portal, led by the one and only punz.
Dream could no longer do anything, he was outnumbered, even technoblade himself could never get out of this situation. Tommy started saying a speech saying how he had ruined the lives of so many people in this smp, saying how much of a villain dream was and how he deserved to die.
Villain.... Dream started laughing like an evil maniac, ruffling his already messed up hair. But then he stopped and looked at tommy with an insane look in his eyes and put his hand on his already broken face-mask, and said just above a whisper, with the tone of sadness and madness " I never intended to be the villain...", then he proceeded to willingly put his two hands out, putting himself in the very prison he created.
