"Abella." Someone shook me in my sleep. "Abella you need to wake up."

My eyes flew open and darted around the room. When I saw that there was no immediate threat in the room, I turned to Nyx. He was in his Illyrian leathers.

"What's wrong? What's happening?" I questioned, jumping out of bed to stand closer to him.

"The beasts that we told you about are almost here." He said and grabbed ahold of my hand, leading me outside of the room. "You'll hide in the basement and don't come out until one of us gets you." We were now in the living room and everyone was gathered talking in hushed voices, all wearing their leathers with daggers in their hands.

"What?" I questioned and ripped my hand out of his. "I can fight. I can help."

"No, you can't." Nesta interjected glaring at me. She was standing next to the front door, ready to leave at any given moment, in here leathers she looked like a warrior. "You will only slow us down."

"I'm a trained fighter." I shot back.

"You'll only distract Nyx! And we need him paying undivided attention." Nesta continued to interject. I frowned why would I distract Nyx.

"You haven't been in practice in years." Cassian said his voice a little softer than Nesta's. "These beast's they fight like nothing I've seen before. We wouldn't want you..." His eyes took in my newly healed body. "Reinjuring yourself."

"That's exactly why I should fight." I continued arguing. "I'm the only one here who has a beast form, and who has trained by fighting other beasts."

I turned away from them to face Nyx. I wasn't sure why this mattered to me so much, but I needed to fight. Needed to prove it to myself. I had spent the last 6 years of my life, defenseless and choice-less. I needed this to show that my time there wouldn't define me.

"Abella." Nyx tone was barely above a whisper. "Are you sure?" His gaze was begging me to not fight, but I knew he wouldn't deny it to me.

"I'm sure." I nodded my head.

Nyx looked at me, and I mean truly looked at me. I wasn't sure if it was his damenti abilities, but I felt as though he peered into my soul that moment.

He nodded his head at Nesta and Cassian, signaling that I would be fighting. A sigh of relief escaped me, I knew that Nyx knew I needed this. And if it wasn't for the battle we were about to partake in, I would have kissed him for it.

My gaze met Nina's and she smiled at me approvingly. "I already know you're going to kick some major ass." She said and passed me a few of her weapons. Nyx did the same.
