Pulling up to Eldora, she could see that nothing had changed. The smells, the sights and the buildings were all the same but with maybe a new paint job done to them.
Walking into the small office building which was really just a trailer, she was greeted by Bev the receptionist. “Hello! You must be Lilly! Welcome!”
“Hi! Bev! It’s nice to see you again!” Lilly say’s.
“Let me show you to your office!” Bev leads her a few short steps, “Well, here we are!!” She say’s brightly, “Sorry it’s nothing big or private!”
“Oh that’s okay! I don’t need anything fancy!” Lilly say’s.
Lilly walks around and sits down at her desk, as Bev walks away, she looks over her shoulder and say’s “It’s nice to have you back Lilly! I missed your smiling face while you were gone!”
Lilly blushes, “it’s been to long since I’ve been home Bev. I’ve missed coming here, but after what happened that one night…” Lilly stops and starts to get choked up. Shaking her head, “I can’t and won’t think about that night…” Bev rush’s over, “Oh honey! I didn’t mean to get you upset! Let’s not talk any more and get back to work!”
As Bev walks away, Lilly looks down at her desk, trying to pull her self together she see’s a note all folded up resting next to a little plant. She unfolds it and it say’s:
“Welcome to Eldora Speedway! Thank you for joining our team! Have a great first day!” Signed Tony Stewart and the Staff at Eldora Speedway
Smiling and folding it back up, Lilly put’s it to the side. Thinking how sweet of them it was to send her a little welcome letter and plant. Glancing at the clock, seeing that it’s almost 10, she gathers up her stuff and heads for the door. Turning and looking at Bev she say’s “I have a meeting with Grace at the ticket office. I’ll be over there for most of the day with her if you need me!” Bev looks up and smiles and say’s “Okay sweetie! See you after while!”
While walking the short distance to the ticket office, Lilly can’t help but think of how sweet Bev is. She reminds her of her Granny and how she misses her.
As she walks in the ticket office door, she is greeted by Grace, “Hello! You must be Lilly!” Grace stretches out her arm to shake Lilly’s hand. “Hello! It’s nice to finally meet you Grace! We have talked over the phone for so long it’s nice to put a face to the voice!” Lilly tells her. Looking at Grace, Lilly can’t help but think of how pretty she is! Her slim, and petite frame, and blonde hair and the bright face, makes you feel comfortable around her.
“Please! Have a seat!” Grace tells Lilly. Taking a seat next to Grace, Grace looks up and sees that Lilly is a little nervous. “Don’t by nervous Lilly! Just relax and treat me like a friend you haven’t seen in a while! We are going to be working close together and I want us to trust each other, and be close! So please relax!” Smiling, Lilly say’s “Thanks! It’s just hard to come back here after what happened. But I’m ready to do the job and excited about starting and working on the up coming season!”
Grace hands Lilly a stack of papers, “ Let’s look these over! It will give you a better Idea on what we are looking for here at Eldora and give you, your expectations!”
“ Your main job is going to be the event planner! You will be in charge of all of the big races, The Kings Royal as well as The Knight Before the Kings Royal, The Prelude to a Dream, The Dream and the World 100’s, with some other little races in there. You will also be expected to greet the Drivers when they appear for The Prelude. The Prelude is your baby. You will plan everything from marketing down to what the guy’s will eat after the race.”
Lilly looks up from the papers, and smiles at Grace, “ I think I’m going to love my job! What’s more to love than planning one big party with some dirt racing thrown in there?!”
Grace smiles at Lilly, “ I think I’m going to love working with you!” Grace replies
