I hold his hand tightly, staring at his face as he sleeps soundly. My eyes are tired from staring so long, but I can't sleep now. I watch as Lucius finally stirs, sitting up straight as I keep our fingers laced together. Slowly, his head turns towards me, his eyelids lifting to reveal my favourite pair of icy blue eyes I loved so much. Except now, they look tired. Worn out as he blinks, taking his time to acknowledge his surroundings. "Kelly?""I'm here," I say softly, kissing his knuckles as he watches me, now wide awake. "I was so worried..." I whisper, caressing his cheek gently as I start to well up. He tries to lift himself up, but failing so I quickly help him, standing up and using all my strength to lift his heavy muscly body so he can sit up. "Thank you," he grunts, looking down at a gash on his stomach I had covered up, making me feel the guilt ten times worse than it was before.
He looks up at me, reading my thoughts as I watch him struggle, tears sliding down my cheeks. "I'm so sorry..." I whisper, breathing shakily as I wipe a tear. "Hey, don't cry," he says softly, "I'm fine. I promise." I shake my head, collapsing onto the chair beside the bed, my heart drowning in guilt.
I had brought him to our bed after he passed out, holding his heavy, almost lifeless body close to me as I took him to the warm mattress, taking off his clothes and bandaging the wounds. Then, I had sat here for hours, waiting for any slight movement that would bring me a great sense of relief. Now, I felt too guilty, too ashamed. I shouldn't even be here.
He holds out his hand, waiting for me to take it. When I do, he kisses it lightly, holding it with a gentle grip. "Don't blame yourself, darling. I deserved it." I shake my head again, now hurting from all the tears I had shed. "No, Lucius... I could have killed you," I sob, looking away as I hang my head in shame. Then, unexpectedly, he chuckles, making me look up at him in confusion. "Believe me Kelly, I've survived a lot worse..." he smirks, watching me closely. "But remind me to never get you angry again." I give him a furious look as he tries not to laugh.
"Are you serious? I nearly killed you and now you're making jokes?" He sighs, still smirking as he watches me look away, my anger returning to me. "Are you mad at me?" I roll my eyes, staring him down, "No."
"So," he says, still smirking. "It's good to see Severus took it upon himself to teach you his spells." I smile at the memory of my favourite professor teaching me his tricks after I had gone to visit him on a Saturday. I had begged him to tell me, and eventually he gave in, even borrowing me his secret spell book Harry had found. Lucius smiles as well, seeing the memory as I laugh a little. "We had a lot of fun that day..."
Sighing, I drop the subject, standing from my chair and picking up the pills on the bedside table, a glass of water in my other hand. "You need to take these." He watches me closely, not saying anything about the change of subject, opening his mouth for me to feed him the medicine. My stomach flips when he puts his hand over mine as I bring the glass to his lips to drink. When he's done, I set the glass back down, looking at him with amusement at the water droplets on his chin, wetting his light stubble. His eyes search my face as I move closer, holding the back of his neck and wiping his mouth with my sleeve, smiling faintly as he glances up at me.
When I notice he's staring at me intently, I clear my throat, looking at the box of the pills I'd given him. "I know its not much, but these will have to do until I can go out tonight for the healing potion." Suddenly, he looks worried, his eyes a little wider.
"Kelly you can't go out, there are death eaters everywhere. If they see you..."
I smile, "I'll be fine. I'll take the invisibility cloak Harry left me."
Harry had left the cloak with me before leaving on his journey to destroy the horcruxes. He had told me it was for my protection, just in case before saying goodbye and apparating with Hermione and Ron. It was on my bed the day Draco had barged into my room, packing my bags quickly, also packing the cloak in case I needed it.
