Angels vs Time

Chapter 15

"Oh my gosh!" I yell loudly, running my fingers through my hair

My surgery is today and i'm freaking out. Reed's freaking out too, but he's trying to hide how scared he is by eating food. Jack on the other hand isn't hiding any emotions from us. He's sitting in the corner of the room, bawling. I have to leave soon, and Marina is suppose to go with me, but Traffic is bad today.

"Jack, Hun, please calm down" I walk over to him and sit beside him

He wipes his eyes, sniffling. "I-I'm trying!"

The knock of the door startles us all. I push myself up, rushing towards the repeated knocks. Marina has Nikolai in her hands, his baby bag, and she's talking on her phone. I take Nikolai from her, giving him to Reed, as i go find my bags. I look for my pink bag in my closet. It has all the things I need inside. It also has a months load of clothes. I didn't know how long i'd be staying so i had to take orders into my own hands.

"Let's go!" I shout on my way out the door

The snow has started back up. It slowly falls onto me and all my belongings as I shove them in the trunk. Reed rushes outside covering Nikolai with his jacket. Jack pushes a yelling Marina outside to the car.

"Who's going and who's staying?" Marina asks us, putting the phone to her chest

"Well, I'm going of course" I say, closing the trunk and putting Nikolai's car seat in

"I'll stay.." Reed hands me Nikolai

"I'm going" Jack hops in the back next to Nikolai's car seat

"Okay, hurry up people!" Marina runs to the other side of the car

I put Nikolai in his car seat and buckle him up as he plays with my necklace. Making sure his hands and feet are inside, I slowly close the door and turn to look at Reed.

He's biting his lip, avoiding eye contact with me. "I hope everything goes well" he says his voice cracking

"Me too" I say quietly

I stand on my toes, pulling Reed into a big hug as the snow falls on us. He wraps his arms around me, hugging me back. I hear him sniffle. We stand there for a while in silence.

He let's me go and I get in the passenger seat. I roll down the window as A tear falls down reed's face.

"Don't cry, okay? Everything's gonna be fine" I tell him, wiping the tear off his cheek

Marina starts backing out the yard as he says "if only you knew what I was crying about"

What does he mean? Jack avoids eye contact as Marina gives me a sad smile. They know why he's crying, but they won't tell me. I get nervous. Why won't they tell me?

Jack lays beside me in the hospital bed with Nikolai on his tummy. Marina is busy typing on her phone. Nikolai pulls Jack's hair and giggles.

"Danggit" Marina whispers as she stands up

"What is it?" I ask, turning to face her

"Erin's car broke down" she grabs the baby bag and reaches for Nikolai

"Nikolai can stay while you help Erin. I'm sure Jack won't mind watching him"

They exchange looks before Jack hands Nikolai over to Marina. She smiles slightly.

"Jack, can I speak with you in the hallway?" She asks, walking to the door

He nods and rolls off the bed. I wonder what she needs? Why won't anyone tell me anything? I watch some little kid show while I wait for him to come back.
