Ophelia Rivers' POV
"Ophelia, would you come here for a minute?"
That was my grandfather.
Let me introduce myself first, i'm Ophelia Rivers, eighteen years old,i live in a big house with my grandparents. It's actually in the suburbs of the city, a quite rich neighbourhood. It has a large garden in which grandma Mia adores spending the day.She has done an incredible job in keeping it in shape. It is fenced by trees, surrounded by multiple flowers.
The entrance of the garden has a special decor.Grandfather Ray has written his name by associating flowers " R.R ", its so creative and thoughtful. Then, there's a small fountain made by grey stone.A woman statue, half naked, is pouring water from a small recipient into the pool surrounding her.Her features are sad and depressive. Granfather Ray had explained to me that this was a simulation to his great grandmother who was living troublesome with her husbands. She had married a lot of times but each time failed at saving her marriage and ended up alone. Strangely enough Ray has illustrated this curse into this statue. Not afraid one bit of it.She was half naked because she never felt completed, she was always longing for attention and seeking it.The fact that she was pouring water into a pool was reflecting the way she would always be present and have effect on the family, like water would always have effect on human.Yeah, so this is pretty much the story Ray told me.
The building was two storey high, first floor dedicated to daily life, kitchen, rooms, two large bathrooms and huge living room. The second floor, though, was strictly prohibited. No one except Ray had the right to go there .The stairs had a carpet in which is printed the initials "R.R".
I love my house because i lived here since.... Since ever.
See, i never saw my parents. They're just too busy working and travelling.Dad, or rather Sammuel Rivers is a succesful lawyer, he's too engrossed in his numerous cases to acknowledge his own daughter. Mom, Catherina Martinez owns a multinational firm and keeps herself hectic travelling and going to several parts of the world.
I sincerely wonder how mom has given birth to me.I mean shouldn't she be caring about me? Shouldn't she be the one to give me advice throughout my life?
I'm really wondering.
But then,i got used to living without them, i got immuned against their oblivion towards me. So, my grandparents have sort of adopted me when they noticed that i was left alone. And here i am, cherished and loved and living my life, my teenage,my experiences.
"Comiiing, Ray" i answered.
I quickly slide down the stairs and toward Ray. Raymond Rivers his whole name.He was sitting in the huge living room.
" We need to have the talk." his expression turned deadly serious and his features couldn't be more earnest.
" yes,i'm all ears." i said after hesitating for a bit. That tone he used got me confused.
"Well, you know, you're now eighteen. A legal adult. You're likely to take responsibility and assume decisions of your own. And as your grandfather, no, as your...friend, i need to warn you and enlighten for you the terrible swings life can play. Thus, everything you'll do from now on will be based on reason and wisdom. Those two tools are the main key to a successful life and a pleasant one.Do you understand so far?"
The side of his eyes twitched as he moved his face to get a better view of me.
I nodded as a reply and he kept on talking about how i should entail a good college or university and so on.
My thoughts went elsewhere. I have never, in my entire living, gone out of the house. I had schooling via internet and learned pretty much everything virtually. Let me rephrase this, i have never had FRIENDS and i genuinely ignore the meaning of this word nor the feeling of it.
Yeah, this is a true ordeal, i'm now supposed to face the real world and real people when i have zero communication skills.
" Ophelia you zoned out again, didn't you?"
He caught me again. I glanced guiltily at him and batted my lashes for extra innocence effect.
Yeaah...No
It didn't work, his brows furrowed and his facial expression changed to angry.
" You know what you have to do "
He simply stated. But i knew how much his words weighed and i prepared myself for the worse.
Everytime i did something bad, i was assigned to do some onerous task as a punishment.
Needless to argue, i got up to my feet and stomped toward my bedroom.
My bedroom....
