the chicken shaped egg timers song rang within the house walls. "I got it" Winona said as she rushed over to the oven and pulled out the lasagna then placed it gently on the stove before turning off the oven before she had the chance to forget. A gentle knock was heard at the front door and Winona rushed over to it as the girls all got up as if they knew what she was about to ask.
Three boys came inside and they all looked happy to be there. The door was closed behind them as Winona clasped her hands together and looked at all of them who awkwardly looked at each other. "I nearly forgot! Girls, this is Mitchell and his boys" She smiled as she went back into the kitchen to take off her apron and Ellie pointed at the eldest son. "I didn't expect to see you here Joe!" Ellie laughed as Joe high-fived her and they started talking. The curly headed boy walked over to the remaining three girls and smiled at them with the most glee they've ever seen. "I'm Gaten and you guys are?"
Millie adored the kind nature Gaten showed, it made her relaxed and she gently grabbed his hand then shook it. "I'm Millie, the brunette next to me is my baby sister Madison but you can call her Madi." Madi smiled at Gaten and gave him a side hug but he quickly returned it as Ava looked up at him with a little head tilt. "Who's this little flower princess?" Ava giggled at his words and put her hand out just like Millie had done. "I'm Ava! I'm the youngest and the cutest shhhh" Ava giggled as Gaten picked her up and she gasped at the drastic height difference. "So, is Millie the oldest?" "No I'm not, my twin sister Ellie is but she's talking to your brother."
They all got along so well and it was really looking like a beautiful evening awaits them. "Alright, dinners ready! You can pick where you seat I think there's enough chairs for all of us." Winona laughed as she sat down at the head of the table and Mitchell was quick to sit next to her. Ellie sat in the middle between Joe and Millie with Gaten right next to her. Ava sat on the other side of their mother with Madi just besides her. Millie was the only one eating quietly and not talking to anyone while conversation consumed everything around her.
"Papa! I missed so much!" Little Millie squealed as the pair of twins hugged their father tightly while little Madi walked over to them, with a giggle escaping her lips. "It's nice to be with my girls once again! Have you seen your mum girls?" Millie nodded and pointed to the kitchen, "alright you go color, I'll be right back" They happily nodded and grabbed a coloring book for each of them, Ellie had one of her own while Millie shared hers with Madi. The scent of strong peppermint and books radiated off of their father that managed to stick in the girls noses. They had never been so giggly at a dinner table prior to that night.
The only time Millie snapped back into reality was when Gaten gently tapped her arm to see if she was okay. She gently patted his shoulder as a reassurance that she was okay and continued to eat only shortly after that spacing out episode. Ellie and Joe kept picking on each other throughout dinner which made the table laugh just due to how they are acting like brother and sister already. Millie had nothing to say, she could barely even talk to Gaten who she gotten along with so well and they just met. "We have something to tell you kids" Winona started as she made eye contact with Mitchell and smiled. "We're dating" The whole table went silent and the kids looked at each other in shock.
Millie wished that tears weren't pricking at her eyes and she placed her fork down then pushed her chair out from the table. "sorry, I can't do this.." Millie said gently as she pushed her chair back in then ran upstairs without hesitation and hopped on her bed, holding Sadie's hoodie close to her to get some comfort. Winona looked at Mitchell who felt guilty for how Millie reacted, "hun it's okay.. she's hasn't gotten completely over what happened with their father.. it's not your fault" "Mum, i love you and Mitchell is sweet but you know Millie was close to dad. she's happy for you of course, she's just upset. I'll go talk to her with Gaten" Madi said gently as she got up from her seat and ran upstairs with Gaten on her tail.
Confusion consumed the whole table as Ava, Joe and Ellie got up to put their empty plates into the sink before going into the living room. Gaten looked at Millie as Madi rubbed her back and he sat down on the foot of her bed. "it's okay Mill I promise.." Gaten assured and pulled Millie up, she collapsed onto Gaten who just hugged her. "I know how you feel and I'm sorry you are still having a hard time. Just, celebrate him whenever you can okay? I'll even help you and hell I can convince Joe and Caleb to help us out. Does that sound good?" Millie looked up at him and slowly nodded which made him goofily smile. "Now, how about we go annoy my brother?"
Clashing metal was all that could be heard in the basement of Sadie's house as Miles watched her with a laugh escaping his lips and folded his arms over his chest. "I didn't expect for you to keep playing the drums after I taught you if we are being honest. You always seemed to be more of a bass player to me" Sadie rolled her eyes as she placed the drumsticks down and left the basement in a huff. "You seem like someone who shouldn't be getting a degree in psychology but here we are miles!" "What's wrong sades? You've been acting off since you got home from the park! Just tell me"
Sadie stopped in her tracks as she looked around the room before looking back at miles and ran a hand through her bright red locks. "I have a girlfriend okay?! I didn't want to tell you this way but god! You infuriating me, expect the unexpected at this point Miles! Now I'm going to go see Finn and I'll let you be. Goodbye brother of mine!" Sadie said a hit loudly as she left the house and ran into Finns house to see David looking at her absolutely confused. Sadie had tears springing to her eyes and he pulled the girl into a hug as he looked around for Finn. "Lils, can you get your brother please? Red needs him like right away. Thank you kid I love you so much!"
