After two days...

Mallika's POV

I felt better now. Last one week of staying lonely and isolated from the world, caged in my tiny dark room, spending time with my ownself, was enough to teach me how to accept the harsh reality. Trying to forget everything is just useless because whenever you try to forget something you don't want to remember anymore, it stays in your head and troubles you more. So it's better to ignore and go with the flow. This world is an abode of sorrows and happiness. Maybe someday my not-so-good life would take a sudden turn and show me a whole new side to this unknown land.

I was walking towards the Principal's office to get my leave note signed for not attending school for a week. I guess Mrs. Verma, our Hitler was also missing my mischiefs as today in the morning, a wide smile made its way on her face, which almost touched her ears, as she saw me. This was certainly a miracle! Whenever she used to see me, she had a frown on her face as if I was the most terrible person she has ever met. But today, she asked me about my health and pulled my cheeks, like those annoying gossiping aunties of our neighborhood (except Sumedh's mom), leaving the whole class staring at us with disbelief. They too couldn't digest Mrs. Verma's out of the box behaviour! That's all sympathy and honestly, I hate it.

I kept walking until I almost reached the office and my ears could hear the voice of two people busy in some sort of discussion.

As I stood there at the door, I could see a curly haired boy standing in front of the Principal's desk, his back facing towards me, busy in talking with Principal mam. It's obviously him. Who can't recognize those famous noodles? The more I am trying to avoid him, the more I am running into him! God please save this innocent soul!

I hesitantly asked for permission earning both of their attention,

"May I come in mam!"

"Oh! Yeah come in Miss Mallika"

I came inside and stood beside him maintaining a good distance between us, trying to look straight which was becoming difficult every second as I could feel his intense gaze on me.

"Your brother said that you weren't well since a week. How are you now?", mam asked while my whole face heated up as I could clearly feel his stare. No matter how much I try to be normal in front of him, he always makes me behave like an insane.

"I-I am fine mam.", I struggled to reply.

"Good! Give me your leave note, let me sign it.", I forwarded to her my leave note and stood there silent, still not daring to look at him.

"Umm...so Sumedh...can you give me a proper explanation of your sudden change in decision? Anirudh told me that you did well that day after a lot of practice! Then why this sudden change?", mam asked him while I was quite confused about what they were talking.

"Actually mam, I am not at all good in these things and to be honest, I am not interested. Mrs. Verma had forced me to play the hero's part and so I had to do it. But now, I feel like I shouldn't do this forcibly. There are many other students who are dying to get my role. Why don't we give them a chance mam?", he pleaded and now once again, my teeny tiny brain flooded with infinite questions. My heart beat became faster and I started breathing heavily. Was this...

"I understand but Karishma was saying that you were perfect for this. We need actors who can play this drama perfectly! We do not expect you to back off at the eleventh hour."

"Mam, I am really sorry for this inconvenience but I too have a solution to this."

"And what's that?"

"Mam, Anirudh is the best for this role. He is brilliantly talented in acting skills. During the practice, he helped me a lot to rehearse and I could very well see that he too was eager to play my role. One more good thing is that he knows all the lines by heart because he was present in all of my practices. Mam can't we give him this role?"

"Okay then. When you're recommending him then I guess he will be a good choice. Tell him to come and meet me once."

"Thank you so much mam and once again sorry for the sudden inconvenience. I really don't want to do this and it would have been worser if I messed up on the day of the annual function!"

"No worries Sumedh. Rather I am happy that you told me the truth. Anyways, here, take this Mallika. I have signed it.", mam said returning to me my diary but there was no response. Complete silence.

"Mallika!"

*No response*

"I am talking to you! Have you spaced out?"

*Again no response*

This time Mr. Noodles slightly shook me trying to break my daze but this was too much for me to take all of a sudden. What should I be, happy or sad?

The whole room started to swirl as if I was drowning into some whirlpool. I held my head which was spinning. I had lost my power to stand straight as I too started to wobble back and forth. My sight became blurrier every second as I could hear the faint sounds of Principal mam and Mr. Noodles in the background. Finally unable to hold it any longer, my eyes closed taking me into a deep slumber.

"Mallikaaaaaa"

I totally blacked out!

I know many of you had guessed it correct! But for those who thought that Sumedh had been practicing with Karishma to propose Mallika - accept my apologies 🙏
Mallika says it correct. Her Mr. Noodles is so innocent that he can't even figure out anything and is only busy in his world of books! *Typical nerd* 🤓
