CHAPTER TWENTY

It's seven a.m., and I'm exhausted from not sleeping for more than twelve hours. The moment kept replaying in my mind, and it was really frightening me. When we arrived at the hospital, he was promptly placed in the operating room. I've been sitting in the waiting room for an hour, drinking my coffee. When a doctor came out, I quickly got up, but he walked the people across from me.

After half an hour, I'm still waiting for the doctor to tell me if he's okay. Another doctor came out and was coming towards me, so I stood up and said, "Is he okay?" I asked, hoping he'd say yes. "Well, his left leg is broken and his nose is broken, so we all fixed it and now he's just sleeping in the recovery room," the doctor explained. He told me what room he was in, and I went searching for the room that he's in.

I immediately opened the door to the room and found his parents still there. "Oh Mr and Mrs Hacker you're here I'm sure someone told you what happened" I whispered as his mother got up and came up to me and hugged me. "You okay sweetheart?" she asked as I nodded. I sat in one of the available chairs, the one next to his hospital bed. I looked at him asleep, and all the painful thoughts from a few hours before came flooding back.

"Please stop!"

Tears began to stream down my cheeks, which I immediately wiped away. Mrs Hacker began hugging me and rubbing my back, telling me that everything would be fine. It's nine o'clock in the morning, and I went out to get some pancakes. I returned to the hospital and went upstairs to his room. "I got some break-" I saw Vinnie, who was wide awake, putting on his top. I set the bags down and approached him. I hugged him and kissed him, saying, "I'm glad you're okay."

His parents had left, leaving only the two of us in the room. We were cuddling in his hospital bed as he said, "I'm sorry." He apologised, "for what?" I inquired, "for getting into a fight with your ex boyfriend Jayden, I tried to fight him, but he was too strong," he explained with a sad expression. "Jayden, I don't care about him, he's locked up," I scoffed. "I care about your safety," I explained.

It's now midday, and Vinnie is free to go. We signed out at the front desk and headed outside. Of course, Vinnie was using crutches. I turned around and noticed my car parked in the parking lot, as well as Alissa next to it. "Alissa?" I questioned. What exactly is she doing here? "Oh hey Maya, I got your car here because I didn't want you guys to take an Uber," she explains, then she runs back to a car in which I see Martin, and they drive away. "Your friend is really weird," Vinnie says, "I agree, but you know she is my best friend," I say.

We got in my car and drove away. We stopped for food when we were on the way. We got back on the road and drove home. When we arrived, I turned off the car and got out, as did Vinnie. "Are you okay, baby?" I asked him if it was safe for me to get out of my car. He said that he was well. When we entered, we saw people sitting in the living room.

"Hey, Vinnie, you're back!" I heard Michael say, "I'm here too, Michael," to which I replied, "wow, I know I just want to bug you," to which I rolled my eyes. Vinnie went upstairs, and I stayed downstairs and went to the kitchen to meet Mia and Kouvr. "Hey girls," I said, and they looked at me and grinned. "Hey Maya, I'm so happy you're safe," they said. Mia hugged me and said, "I'm glad I'm safe, and I'm glad Vinnie is safe as well." "Wow, you just love him, don't you?" Kouvr said. "Love?" What she said caught me off guard: "Wait. You haven't told him how much you adore him." Mia mentioned I paused, "I-isn't it too early, we've only been dating for a month," I stutteringly said.

Suddenly, Alissa entered the kitchen, asking, "What are we talking about, girls?" She inquired, taking a handful of my chips I was munching on. I rolled my eyes and shook my head, "Maya over here hasn't said I love you to Vinnie yet." Mia exclaimed in surprise, "wow Maya, why didn't you say it yet?" She said crossing her arms "I think I want him to say it first," I said.

The girls abruptly began walking out of the kitchen, and I gave a puzzled look when I saw Vinnie walking with crutches, "hey my love," he said, kissing me on the cheek. He was grabbing something from the pantry when I decided to ask him, "Do you love me?" I asked, and he almost dropped his chip packet because the question caught him off guard. "If you don't love me, just say it," I said.

I averted my gaze when I sensed him approaching. He took my hand in his and turned me around to face him, saying, "Maya....I love you." I stopped, my eyes opened, and I didn't say anything. I looked up at him and took a deep breath, saying, "I love you too." I kissed him without pulling away as he put his arms around me, forgetting he was on crutches, and we collapsed to the floor.

We began to laugh. Michael walked in and looked at us on the floor. "You guys are weird," he said, scratching his head, and we burst out laughing.
