Two Weeks LaterAfter the first ever incident with the boiling water, Clarence seemed to have talked his wife out of doing it again for two whole weeks. During that time, though, Novah was washed in steaming hot bath water. Bianca just could not fathom that her first ever child, the one she was supposed to love unconditionally, has come to be her biggest regret. And although Novah would not understand now, she's always reminded.
..................................................................
Today was the first in four months Anovah was allowed outside. For obvious reasons, her parents just couldn't risk anyone seeing her and all of the damage they'd done. They couldn't risk ruining their reputation, most of all, which is why Novah was always sat in the back yard close to the bushes if she wanted to play. This was all to avoid anyone linking this gorgeous, but hideous(in their eyes), little baby girl to them.
Unbeknownst to anyone, however, a group of "hoodlums" were riding through the neighborhood looking for some type of trouble. As if it was meant to end terribly, Novah had wandered into the front of the house, while her parents were searching ways to clear her beautiful dark skin, just as said "hoodlums" decided to start beef with a group of rival gang members. All hell broke loose when one started firing off random shots, scaring little Novah and her parents, who had no right of mind to try to get their daughter out of harms way.
Treyton was just walking from his grandmother's house, ironically directly across from the Carters, and he was just about to turn away to take shelter from the wildly flying bullets when he noticed one of the gunmen desperately trying to hit the little girl to be able to say he hit someone; anyone was better than no one in his mind.
Treyton, taking action instinctively, risked his own life to run and knock the gun out of the young boy's hand.
"My nigga! You dumb or just stupid asf bro?"
Shocked, the boy just stood there, soon getting shot in the hip. Ducking down watching the car speed off, Treyton was so desperately trying to make out the little girl in the sea of bodies. Spotting her crouched down covering her little ears and head, not making a sound, he ran up to her without thinking twice.
Scooping her up protectively, he checked her all over thoroughly making sure she wasn't injured in any kind of way.
"You okay, baby girl? You didn't get hurt did you?"
Not understanding what the man was saying, Novah just hooked her little arms around his neck as a way of gaining some sort of comfort.
Hearing yelling, Treyton saw a couple running toward him, making him slightly smile at first. However, that smile soon faded when he realized they were yelling at the baby girl instead of making sure she was okay. What further made him worried was the fact that upon hearing those voices, baby girl began crying loudly and trying desperately to hold onto him even tighter.
"WHY WOULD YOU MOVE?! ARE YOU STUPID? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
"I assume you know what's going to happen, right?"
Of course, only being two, Anovah didn't know what her parents were talking about. She was horrified, though.
Treyton, taken aback, was fuming at this point. He didn't understand how the people in front of him, presumably the girl's parents, were more upset about her moving from wherever than the fact that she almost lost her life.
"Umm, excuse me? With all due respect, she didn't do anything wrong. She doesn't even seem to understand what's going on right now," he stated hardly.
"It doesn't matter. Her black ass knew better than to move. That's why she gets what she deser-"
Noticing what she was about to finish saying, Bianca just decided to stop talking and let her husband finish.
"Man thanks for getting her. But as my wife stated, she knew better than to move. And you don't know us so stay out of it."
Chuckling bitterly, Treyton just continued to rock the now calm Novah, which her mother really hated to see. Snatching Novah away, she roughly put her down on the concrete, grabbing her hand hard, and basically drug the baby in the house.
Once the front door slammed shut, Treyton instantly heard her loud cries, which led to him trying to get to her. Being stopped by a hard shoulder, he was bound to do something he'd regret.
"Me and my wife take care of business our way. Like I stated before, thanks for getting her. But now I'm TELLING you to mind your business; not ours."
Before Treyton could respond, Clarence rushed back into the house. When he opened the door, Novah's crying got louder, further breaking Treyton's heart.
Instead of intervening like he planned, he just decided that now wasn't the time. Stepping over the shot boy, who now lay in a big puddle of blood next to his friends, Treyton made his way to check on his grandmother before getting into his car. He couldn't wait to get home and tell his wife about his "eventful" day, also saying a quick prayer that maybe baby girl would be okay with those people tonight.
