Bellies full, and morale running high over our victory, we call it a day. We rest in the unfamiliar land eager to see what the next day had for us, but we won't be able to reach that day if we stay unaware of the dangers that inhabit the night. Our sleep is haunted by the constant howling, roaring and snoring of an unconscious Mil, the monsters play a part in the noise too.

If we were to make it through the night in one piece we had to establish night patrol. While the others slept, two stayed awake. One looked over the sleeping allies while the other looked for any suspicious movement in the forest. This was carried out in turns. I was first with Garil. I was the patrol and he was the post.

Now that I think of it, making someone explore the outskirts of camp alone wasn't the safest idea, but I figured by the time the patrol is mauled to death the others would wake up giving them a better chance at survival, but that's a pessimistic thought.

I climb up a tree and look for a bird's eye view. The forest is calm. You can hear the wolf howling in the distance that has become a familiar sound. I sit down in that tree branch with the whole team within sight. It looks like this was going to be a peaceful night.

"ROOAAAAR!" I look back and notice that the noise hadn't come from Mil. I was wrong. This wasn't going to be a peaceful night. I look to the outside of camp and see a mound of grass parting ways letting a shadow run through. I toss myself from the trees and fall with a bang. My armor violently clashes as I speed my way to the camp. If that thing is hostile and it reaches them before me, they won't have time to react.

My blood runs cold as I part leaves and branches that stand in my way. I look beside me to see the creature running parallel to me. It looks like a white wolf, but about my height when it was on all four legs.

It seems like it wouldn't be a big threat like the frog that attacked us earlier that day, until the grass that was separating me and the wolf abandoned us leaving us both discovered. I noticed it and it noticed me. Its fur was black like the night, eyes as red as fire, and an external shell made of its own bones. They extended for about two inches away from its body making a potent shield around its vital parts. It immediately identifies me and studies me. It begins to run to my direction and I am found on a direct path to the beast.

"This is my chance to show what I've got." I think as the armored wolf jumps at me. I crouch and roll as it flies over me. I unsheathe me swords and maneuver them skillfully in circles to intimidate the monster standing only yards away from me. It steps back and launches itself again in my direction with an ear piercing roar.

A/N
I was writing this chapter and I realized it was twice as long as all my other chapters so I split it in two. (The main reason it took so long. the second reason was I was too focused on my other story, Escape.)
