(Aurora's POV)
"Asa, I put your clothes on Aurora's bed."
"I told you that I could do my own laundry. It's enough that you're letting me stay."
Mom waved him off. "Asa, you're like one of my kids. You're welcome to stay how ever long you need. I do their laundry for them, so I can do yours too. Now quit yapping and finish your breakfast or you'll both be late for school."
Asa has been staying for the past four days. He went home once to get something he forgot and when he came back he was pissed. I didn't ask what happened because the look on his face told me it'd be best not to.
I expected the shooting to be on the news the next day, but it wasn't. Nothing was said about it. It's like it never happened. Only thing to show was the few dead bodies that Asa's dad and the others had to bury.
I asked Asa about it and he said that that's how things work with them. They have connections just about everywhere. If they don't want something showing up in the news then it doesn't show up.
"Ready?" Asa asked, as I slipped on my shoes.
"Ready." I smiled.
"Have a good day!" Mom yelled from the living room as we walked out.
Once we got to school...it was as I expected.
Stares.
Everyone staring at us.
Maybe it was the fact that we arrived together. Maybe it was the fact that Asa held my hand tightly in his as we walked. Maybe it was my fabulous outfit. Maybe it was how I did my hair that morning. I don't suppose we'll ever truly know what made them stare.
"I'll see you at lunch?" He asked once we got to my locker.
"I'll save you seat. We don't have to sit with my friends if you don't want too."
"We can sit wherever you want, Princess. I won't complain...out loud."
I gave him a light snack and told him to go get ready for class. He gave a quick kiss and ventured off to his locker. That's when I was pounced on.
"Oh. My. Gosh. What the hell?" Maya exclaimed, rushing to my side.
"What?"
"Asa Kaede. You and Asa Kaede. When the f*ck did that happen? How did that f*cking happen?"
"We've been friends since we were little." I shrugged.
"You two dating now?" Ellie asked.
I nodded. "He's going to join us for lunch, if that's okay."
"Okay? More than okay! I've been dying to talk to him since forever." Maya grinned.
"Hopefully Lucas won't mind." Ellie said.
"He can find someplace else to sit if it bothers him." Maya said.
The bell rang a minute later and rushed to get to class. I passed Asa on the way and he sent me a wink which Maya totally saw.
"F*ck. He's so hot." Maya said dreamily.
"Don't tell him that. His ego is big enough."
She laughed. "Promise you'll tell me everything. I want to know everything about you two."
"Maybe." I smirked.
I didn't see him again until lunch. Maya, Ellie, and I were already seated when he walked in. Lucas and his friends walked in shortly after that.
Asa grabbed his lunch and made his way over to us. He gave me a smile as he sat down beside me and I'm pretty sure Maya swooned.
"Asa, this is Maya and Ellie. Girls this is Asa, but you know that already."
"Hi." Asa smiled.
"Hi." Maya squeaked out and Ellie waved.
"A new yet familiar face at our table today." Lucas said, sitting across from me with his friends.
"Today and everyday after that." Maya said, taking a bite of her sandwich.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." Asa said, laying his hand on my thigh under the table.
"Heard some crazy shit went down on your side of town the other day." Lucas said.
"Oh yeah. I heard about that too. Someone said it was a bunch of gunshots or something."
"Your old man kicking up trouble over there?"
"I don't know. That's his business and I don't stick my nose in other people's business." Asa said.
"Oh snap." Maya whispered.
"Well I would just hate for...someone innocent to get caught in the crossfire." Lucas said, briefly looking at me.
"He's not anywhere close to being mixed up in the things his father is doing. Right Asa? Especially since you've moved in with us." I said, smiling widely at him. I could see several emotions flash over Lucas's face as well as the others.
"You...moved in?" Maya asked.
"Aurora's parents are like my parents." Asa replied.
"They don't care that their daughter's boyfriend is living with them?" Ellie asked.
"Nope. They love Asa." I smiled, munching on a french fry.
Lucas stared at Asa with his jaw clenched tightly shut. I could tell he wanted to say something, but he didn't know what. By the time lunch ended, Lucas hadn't said another word and Ellie hadn't said much either. Maya and Lucas's friends kept talking though.
When the day ended Lucas hadn't spoken another word to me despite us having classes together and him usually not being able to shut up. I had a good suspicion he didn't like Asa. I had a bigger suspicion that he liked me and that made him dislike Asa even more.
Couldn't say I cared though.
He's been my Asa longer than any of them had been my friends. He'd be my Asa long after graduation after we've all gone our separate ways. I was separated from him once and I won't let it happen again. He's mine and I'm his. No matter what comes our way.
