Chapter 17

Remembering what Chase said this morning… before he pissed me off, I school my expression when I walk into the room typically used for council meetings. Beckett and his men were set to meet me here at six and though I knew more were arriving, I’m still floored by the crowd of unfamiliar faces in the room. More than thirty men showed up at Beckett’s request. Either he’s really likable or really respected.

“Am I late?” I say searching for a clock. I’m sure it isn’t six yet.

“No ma’am,” Beckett says. “I had the men meet here half an hour early.”

“Well thank you all for meeting me. I really appreciate you being here.”

“Pleasure is ours,” a man I don’t recognize says. “It’s time the humans know they can’t push us around.”

“I’d like to know if any of you have information that could be helpful,” I tell them. “The number of missing persons reported and the number of bodies at the facility don’t match up, which means there’s more locations. We can’t do a whole lot without a starting point.”

Beckett gestures to two men about halfway down the table who seemed to have perked up at me words. They both look young, probably the youngest in the group of men. And they look alike, as in identical. Twins are rare, practically unheard of in Supernaturals, so I’m a bit amazed to be sitting in their presence. Both have the same large hazel eyes that give them away as fae.

“This is Topher and Carson,” Beckett introduces us and each guy gives me nod. “They’ve lived their lives as humans,” he explains. “They’ll have the intel you’re after.”

“Great. Stay after so we can talk,” I tell them both and they nod, eager to help. “Where are you with recruiting?”

Beckett opens a notebook that looks to be filled with names and passes it to me. I look through recognizing some of the names and noting that several are missing.

“We have sixty willing to fight with us. Another fifteen in medics and cooks who’re willing to help aren’t listed. For everyone, training starts a zero-six-hundred tomorrow.”

There’s basically a two to one ratio, which means training will include a lot of one on one time. I wish we had bigger numbers, but this way means that the condensed training should be time enough to get everyone battle ready. About a hundred Supernaturals won’t be able to storm the white house, but we can certainly take out a base keeping our people hostage.

“If we can, it’d be best for new room assignments too,” he says.

“Done. There are a slew of rooms on the same floor as the gym that aren’t being used. We’ve already put you guys down there. Everyone training will be moved down there as well. I want this to be their only focus. Anyone not ready will be out, I’m not risking lives unnecessarily. I’ll keep this list is that’s ok and have room assignments ready tomorrow morning.”

“Anything else?”

“I’d like you to all focus on strength and combat. We have a mage that can set up a kickass obstacle course. I’d like everyone to be able to complete every task without relying on power. Once they have, they can shift or use speed or whatever skills they have. But in case for some reason we don’t have access to our powers, they need to be trained with and without them. I don’t want any of you focused on anything but whipping an army into shape. Most here are good with their individual powers already, but if you see someone struggling in their power send them to me and I’ll find them a mentor to train with.”
