Here's Chapter 4! (ps, sorry it's so late in the day before getting it up!) Hope you enjoy :] Look for the next update on Thursday!

Chapter 4

She must have pulled me into her dream because I don’t recognize any of this. We’re in the front yard of nice suburban house complete with white picket fence. All the colors are too bright and bold to be reality, but it’s oddly comforting to feel a little like I’m in a cartoon.

“I’ve been waiting for you, silly,” she says and giggles. In her dream world, Penelope is the little girl she once was. Careless and free the way she once was, she’s not scared and alone like she is when she’s awake.

“Are you ready?” I ask her.

“To find your friend. Is he going to help us?”

“I hope so.”

“Me too. All that sand keeps getting in my shoes, and eyes, and hair, and mouth, and—“

“Penny,” I call out to cut her off because I think if I don’t she’d just keep going.

“Oh, sorry.” She smiles sheepishly. “I’ve never gone in the dreams of someone I’ve never seen before. So I don’t really know what to do.”

“How to you get to your mom’s dream?”

“Well…” she drags the word out for several seconds. “I guess she kind of pulls me there. Oh! But I pull her here too.”

“Ok, then we’ll have to pull Chase here. How?”

“Um, I just imagine her and wish she was right her and then she shows up, but I don’t know what Chase looks like. Is he your boyfriend?”

“Yes,” I say smiling at the innocence of her question. I hope that I get to see Penny like this in real life. I hope she isn’t damaged forever from what they’ve done.

“You try,” she says.

“Try?”

“Imagine him and wish him here, maybe you can do it.”

I close my eyes and picture Chase. His silver eyes and the way one eyebrow quirks when he’s excited about something. The straightness of his nose and the sly smile that’s just for me and gets him whatever he wants.  I wish he were here, every stinking part of my soul wishes he was here. But when I open my eyes, he’s not.

“It didn’t work,” I mutter feeling hopeless and disappointed.

“I wish you had a picture.” The little girl sounds equally disappointed.

“Oh my gosh, a picture,” I shout out the moment the idea hits me. I’m a fucking fae. Penelope looks confused by my outburst, but I don’t waste time explaining instead I work my Glamour until I look exactly like Chase standing in front of her.

“Creepy,” says the little girl. “You just turned into a boy.” She giggles.

“This is what Chase looks like, think you can do it?” I ask. Biting her bottom lip she smiles and nods. I drop the Glamour wait impatiently while she tries to pull Chase into her dream. There’s a chance he’s not even asleep yet, I don’t know how long we’ve been in here but it might have only been minutes or seconds in the real world.

Chase appears, standing in front of us. His back is facing me and I try to speak but I can’t actually get any words out. He’s glancing around probably wondering where the hell he is and why he’s aware that he’s dreaming.
