Chapter Sixty-Two: Our Hearts Were Growing Up

I found my sister in the bar, furiously wiping down the already clean bar. It was hours before we opened and the guards weren't even here yet. She saw me walk in, but pretended to be engrossed in straightening the taps as I approached.

"Can we talk?" I asked.

Jess continued to ignore me, instead walking to the floor and wiping down the tables. I followed.

"I'm not going to abandon you to be with Hadeon." I cut to the chase. "I like Hadeon but... I need my sister. If you don't want me to be with him, I guess we'll break up. But I wish I could have both."

"We all want things we can't have."

"I will always need you in my life, Jess. I don't have any other family. I have no one else. Hadeon is never going to fill that void."

"There are going to be other boys." She argued. "Your first boyfriend is hardly ever your last."

"Maybe." I sighed. "But right now, he is the only one."

Jess breathed deep and dropped into a nearby seat. I grabbed the one beside her and sat.

"I really like Hadeon." I admitted. "I think I might even... I really like him, Jess. But if you think I'm going to make him my entire life, I'm not."

"What do you want me to say?" Jess groaned. "You want me to just give the okay for you and Hadeon to date while you're sleeping under my roof."

"I just bought an apartment in the complex next-door." A voice suggested behind us. Jess and I turned to see Adrianna in the doorway of her office. "Hadeon can have it. I bought it for him anyway. Cant have my best man sleeping on a couch."

"Really?" I asked. It was perfect, close enough that Hadeon can still protect Jess and Jack, but far enough that Jess couldn't possibly have an issue. "You'd do that for him."

"Its barely a favour." She informed me. "The rent will be coming out of his pay, but yes. You and Jess were lucky to find good guys, I don't want anything to get in the way of your relationships."

"Thank you." Jess said simply. Adrianna waved her off, retreating back into her office.

"Are we cool?" I asked my sister.

"I guess." She sighed. "Doesn't mean I like you two being together."

I ran upstairs, excited to tell Hadeon the news.
