"So we broke into her apartment. What now?" I demanded.

The place was nice, much nicer than I'd expect for a diner waitress. The walls were a cool toned tan colour and white and wine red paintings on dodgy canvases hung everywhere. The kitchen was sleek and modern, but crumbs and dodgy appliances sat atop the counters.

"Actually, this is my apartment. She's renting it from me." Hadeon explained, flopping down on a white leather couch that was stained and cracking.

"I thought you weren't close."

"We're not. She thinks she's renting from some guy named Mick Tenner. She'd never have moved in if she knew I was her landlord."

"Hadeon." I said in the sternest voice I could muster. Hadeon seemed to find this amusing, sitting up in his seat with a smirk across his face.

"Yes, ma'am?"

"Don't!" I warned. "Tell me what's going on with your family."

He opened his mouth, clearly about to brush me off.

"Don't you dare change the subject!"

He sighed before looking me in the eyes. "Lilly is my half sister. I left home when I was sixteen to work for Adrianna. Lilly was only eleven and I hadn't seen her since. She wasn't very happy I left her."

"Okay." I said, before quickly and unintentionally doing the math in my head. "Wait, so she's seventeen? Andy is like twenty-five!"

"She turned 18 yesterday." Hadeon sighed. "Andy found out about her a couple years ago and he's been counting down the days ever since. He does it to piss me off."

"Ugh," I cringed, feeling sick to my stomach. Andy was practically Boston's Quinton. 'Why are we here then? We can't actually set her up with someone like him!"

"I'm only worried about Adrianna getting ideas. Lilly can handle Andy."

"How do you kn-" My sentence was cut off by the front door slamming open. I cowered at the noise, backing up against the stools at the kitchen island. Hadeon, however, was unfazed, and remained so even as Lilly pulled a gun out and pointed it at his face.

"Put that thing away." Hadeon muttered.

"Get out of my apartment before I murder you." I flicked my eyes between the two, waiting for Hadeon to remind her who he was.

"Happy birthday, Lilly. I see you've already spent your birthday money from Mum." He said, gesturing to the gun. Lilly seemed unbothered. I guess she does recognise him.

"Who's she?" Lilly asked, her head nodding in my direction.

"I am so sorry." I apologised. "He didn't tell me we were breaking in."

"No one."

"What?" I shot back. Right now, I wanted to be the one holding a gun to his head. "I'm no one?"

"No, Violet not like that-"

"I'm sorry, what way am I supposed to interpret that." I shot back.

"Violet, I don't know how he roped you into this but you're in over your head."

"No, I wasn't roped into this, I- Wait, what? In over my head? What does that mean?"

"It means you should give up. You can't change him. He's a dick forever." Lilly looked me up and down with pity on her face. "Go back to Alabama or whatever hillbilly place you came from."

"Are you implying I'm some ditsy dumbass who's being played?"

"No, she's not." Hadeon said while Lilly nodded. "Lilly, put the gun away. We'll go down to the diner and talk there if you don't like us being in your house."

Lilly stared for a moment before rolling her eyes and putting the gun into the inner pocket of her coat. Go down there, I'll get changed and join you.

Hadeon nodded and we both left the apartment and headed down the stairs.

"Thanks for doing absolutely nothing to defend me." I grunted. "And also for saying I'm no one to you. That line just makes me feel all warm and gushy inside."

"I said you're no one as in your not a threat. I'm sorry that it hurt your feelings."

Cool air blasted us as we walked out of the building, the chill washing over my cheeks that were hot with anger.
