(Flashbacks)

A young boy sat rigid still in the chair at the doctor's office.

He couldn't hear his mother.

He couldn't hear the doctor.

He couldn't hear a thing. Not a single thing.

He turned his gaze over to his mother, her eyes full of tears as she covered her mouth, looking at the writing the doctor had on the clipboard. The little boy was confused. Why was mommy crying? Why couldn't he hear his mommy and the doctor talking? He could hear her just fine a week ago?

The doctor turned his gaze to the confused boy, kneeling down to his height and showing the clipboard to the boy.

Now he understood why mommy was crying.

Mommy was crying because there, on the paper, in big, near illegible writing, was the word deaf.

The little boy didn't know what to feel.

The little boy sat on the swings. He was much older now.

A tap on his shoulder made him look up, seeing his long time friend Chenle.

Chenle sent him a wide, sweet smile, gesturing behind him to the group of boys behind you and speaking to the boy. "Minki, these are my friends, I thought you might like to have more than just me!"

Chenle wasn't good at sign language yet, but he was learning, but he didnt know enough to say all of that.

Minki turned to his white board and started writing.

He turned it to the group of boys.

Hello. I'm Choi Minki, it's nice to meet you! It read.

The other boys smiled, going around and introducing themselves, curious on why the small boy infront of them didn't speak.

'Y'know, it's weird how I'm gonna miss this place' Minki signed to the boys, staring through the gates and to their high school.

Jisung smiled and wrapped an arm around him, making sure that Minki could see his hands. 'Well! It doesn't matter now hyung! Your graduated now! How does it feel?' Minki smiled at them.

You see, Minki, despite being there years older, was still very close to the boys. They had all been so kind as to learn sign language to make it easier to communicate with the already shy boy.

He hummed soundlessly before turning to his little group. 'Its gonna be lonely. You guys need to hurry and graduate so I'm not alone in collage for so long.'

He watched them throw their heads back, wide smiles on their faces and body's shaking with laughter. Oh how he wished he could hear it. How he wished he could hear the people he loved so much.

Haechan lifted his hands up, running them through his hair before smiling at Minki. 'Its only gonna be another year for me, Jeno, Jaemin, and Mark, and only two for Jisung and Chenle. You wont be alone for long. Time is gonna fly bud.' Minki nodded, smiling.

He was right of course, and time flew by until all of the boys were reunited once more in their collage.
