The Temperance Divers

Starting major memory playback with: Diary entry of certain day

{July 21st}

Today is the day. The most important and hopefully not the last day of some of our lives. We've started on turning on the vital systems of the cooling station, as well as removing a few more undesirables that managed to survive the decontamination process. Before you ask, yes, those are undead liquidators. What the hell did they put in those suits? I know they're dead, but some of their brethren are literal goo.

Because I'm a Foreman, perhaps I'm in charged of the lives of the volunteers. A lot of pressure has befallen onto me, because...I've been receiving begs and pleads, sometimes threats to not put their loved ones into the hole! It sounded more menacing when I write it out, but what I meant by the threats is that...most likely they're just trying to get to me.

What I'm doing currently is: I'm with Captain Simone, Svetlana and Dr. Sergei inside the control room – I'm not a coil engineer, but somebody's gotta put these people in line. Talulah is also with me inside the control room, that and the three volunteers who'll be sent down there. We're to be watching them on the security monitors set up, and assist them using the thingamajigs in the control room. By this point, I don't care what these things are called. I think the radiation is going in my head.

Continuing playback with: Various perspectives of important persons

{Hosea's perspective}

[As he puts down his journal, briefly letting an entry go unfinished because of a headache he got, he focuses his new attention to Dr. Sergei and Svetlana's quick briefing to the volunteers, who are slowly but surely putting on a radiation suit—which will be vacuumed, sealed, and be given their equipment later on.]

Sergei: "Our friends from the Riffs will be assisting you with the hot steam—they're currently digging an exhaust tunnel inside their subway stations to make sure you won't overheat in there."

Hosea: "Who's watching over them? To make sure...they won't chicken out?"

Judith: "I lend MudRock, Bob, his two problematic brothers, and that cop girl—Judith to watch over them...make sure they're actually doing their job."

Talulah: "I do wonder what's happening there now."

{Judith's perspective}

[The Zcom supervisors sent by Simone are slowly but deliberately making their way to the makeshift exhaust tunnels made by the Riffs. The exhaust tunnel is located just under the Mother Coil—under the ruptured cooling plant to be precise. They have to trek through the dimly lit subway tunnel, and it's challenging to journey through, but it's fortunate that the trains are basically out of commission now.]

Judith: "I do wonder what really did happen to the coil in the first place."

MudRock: "I think...a cooling plant ruptured but didn't explode. It's, like, ripping a water balloon on the underside, and all of the water slowly came out of there. And I think the steam vapours of the coil also played a big role."

Bob: "Lord knows if they're able to pull this off."

Cletus: "If they do, we'll be making history! (history...)" *His voice echoes and reverberates through the spacious tunnel.*

Judith: "I'm glad the Riffs are okay with this."

MudRock: "More than okay with this – we're saving their city!"
