Ten stitches on her forehead.
They didn't look attractive, but at least she had a bandage to cover it.
It was unbelievable how savage... how savage they had been.
It was Thursday afternoon and she was home with Shane and two other students from the M-RI who had offered to accompany him. They were in the living room while, luckily, Joy was at school and grandmonster had gone to give her piano classes to someone else's house. Robin had had to cook by herself and would have prepared coffee to her visitors too if Shane hadn't sensibly obliged her to stay on her couch so he could do it instead. One of the other two was a girl called Maddie, who was a very nice girl and had had the idea to give the metal box full of money to her. She was the girl the Ravens had perversely humiliated and called Monkey. The other was called Jon and he was Shane's best friend.
"In Roslow, things have been that way for a while." Maddie said once Shane returned with the coffees. "My older sister used to go to the MRI too and she told me that the BRI's and GRI's are as nasty. You wouldn't believe all the bad things they've done all these years. This, for example." She raised both hands and Robin could see, narrowing her eyes, lines, like scars, that weren't as noticeable if you didn't know they existed. "Boiling water. The BRI did it to me."
The four paused.
"We entered the MRI last year." Jon said, trying to distract her. "It's been a hell of a year, but you can't do anything to those guys. It's really frustrating. The teachers can't do much about them either."
Robin remembered Keller being silenced by one glare from a Raven. She gripped her coffee cup.
"And not only that group of six. The entire school's like that." Shane said gravely. "For some reason, if you mess with any of them, you're the one that ends up in detention."
"Thanks for the warning," Robin tried to smile but she had been injected many anesthetics and else, so she was a bit sleepy. Shane grinned at her, shaking his head.
"I'm glad you're well enough to make jokes. How long till you're back in Roslow?"
Robin had meditated on that one the entire day... or most of it, while she was conscious.
"I don't know." She shrugged. Actually, she was planning to quit on school for a year. If she worked hard enough, she'd be able to re start it next year in another place or institute. Plus, if she was available the entire day to watch over the kid, she'd earn more money. Geez, I gotta tell Miller about this... "Have those... bastards gotten any punishment?"
"Saenz is going to double their annual quote to the school."
"That's it?" Maddie frowned. Jon opened his eyes widely.
"Are you kidding me? That's it?"
"It's perfect." Robin smiled. Shane frowned.
"I think it's a bit ambitious from Saenz. The quote to the BRI is a lot more than we could ever imagine."
"What's the weak point of a rich person? Money." Robin said, drinking a sip of coffee. It was delicious. "So if Saenz makes them pay more, that's going to bother them a lot. To me, it's just fine. There's nothing else I can do in my condition."
"You could smash something against their heads again." Jon suggested and they laughed. "Make sure it's a chair this time."
Shane didn't laugh. Robin had noticed Shane had been furious about the whole Raven thing and had even planned revenge, but she had made him swear – Robin learned she had that authority over him now – that he wouldn't do anything. Otherwise, they'd mess with the entire BRI and that wouldn't be fair to those in the MRI that were innocent.
