"Guys, sit, I'll bring coffee for you,"

Ritz said as she got up from the couch and started for the kitchen.

I shot her a smile and Jasprit whispered at my ears: her phone.

I looked at the black iphone 11 sitting on the table beside me. I felt a stinging sensation of guilt. What the hell am I doing? I can't betray my own best friend! And checking someone's phone is invading their privacy- how can I-

Jasprit could probably sense my hesitation. He gave me an assuring look and whispered again, "I know it's wrong and I hate to do it as well. But it's important. If something is really fishy, whatever we're doing is nothing compared to that. Now please check it, she must be coming back,"

I nodded and assured myself, it's fine. Not a big deal.

I reached for the phone and typed the password.

I felt Jasprit's curious eyes on me.

He was so close to me I could even hear him breathing inches away from me.

I turned towards him and whispered into his ears: "It's locked, "

His eyes grew wide in shock. I couldn't believe myself either. Ritz changed the password? Why would she do that?

He whispered back,"What now?"

I looked at his eyes that bore into mine now. I could sense the tension in the air and as much as I hate to admit it, I couldn't move a muscle.

Jasprit's phone rang and we came back to our senses. As we moved away, we saw a stunned Ritz at the entrance.

Oh sick.

Did she see me checking her phone?

"I uh-" I started explaining myself but kept stammering.

Jasprit and I exchanged nervous glances as his phone kept ringing but he didn't seem to be in a hurry to pick it.

Ritz broke into a mischievous laughter.

We looked at her, confused.

"I knew something was up with you guys! I always thought you would make such a cute couple. This is such a dream come true! You guys are a match made in heaven! But Aly why didn't you tell me before?"
Jasprit's mouth widened in disbelief and I sat there, dumbstruck.

Ritz waited for an answer but didn't get any. She continued anyway.

"C'mon guys! There's no use of hiding it from me. I just saw you almost kissing! Sorry to invade your privacy,  but I just couldn't control the excitement! And darn that phone of yours, Jassi! Did your phone have to ring during your moment? You better silent it next time-"

Ritz kept on blabbering and my eyes met Jasprit's. Heat rushed to my cheeks and I looked away.

What was happening a minute ago? Why were we this close? Did it really look like..oh God!

I kept blushing and Jasprit looked equally embarrassed.

"You look so cute together, guys! Really!  Tell me everything about your love story, okay? The first day you met at my house,  that was the moment I knew you guys would look great together. But I didn't know you guys would get together so fast! That's why you keep saying 'Jasprit' 'Jasprit' 'Jasprit' all day! It's great, though. Jassi you tell me-"

I knew there was no point in trying to convince Ritz the other way round.

"Ro, you're here!"
Jasprit sounded more relieved than happy. It was like- save me from your crazy wife.

"Yes, Rohit. Good that you're here! Did Jassi tell you that he's dating Aly?"

Rohit looked at both of us with shock.

"I knew you didn't know. It's shocking, isn't it? Even Aly didn't tell me- but forget it, they look so good together,"

Things were really getting out of hand.

I stood up.

"Um..Ritz. It's good that you're happy, but please don't tell this to anybody else? We don't want to share this news with anybody,"

..

"What the hell did you do inside?"

Jasprit started interrogating me as we walked out of the building.

"I know it's wrong but I had no other option. Trust me, even if angels come to convince Ritz, she still won't believe that we aren't dating. She knows what she knows. If I didn't tell her, she would've roamed around telling everyone which we obviously cannot afford,"

He nodded slightly and sighed.
We walked to the parking lot and as I went to my car, I realised it's tire was punctured.

"It was fine when I came today!"

I furrowed my eyebrows in irritation. Could this day get any worse?

Both of us tried to change the tire but apparently, none of us knew how to do it.

"Let me call my driver, he'll come and fix it,"

"It'll take a long time. Let him come and take it to your home, I'll give you a ride, "

I thought for a moment. That's actually a good idea. I couldn't go back inside just to be tormented by Ritz's questions. And Who wants to wait in this scorching heat?

"Let's go," I said.

We sat in silence as he drove smoothly. After some time he opened his mouth,

"Why did Ritika change her password?"

"I don't know. Another thing to worry about,"
I sighed.

He cleared his throat and spoke,
"So..you wanna continue this? This.. thing. Uh- I mean. Can we tell Ro it's actually false?"

"I told you Ritz is not gonna believe if we tell her otherwise. Untill we actually confront her and tell her the whole story, we can't explain what happened. So till then, we need to pretend before her. But I don't think it will be that hard, I mean- we don't need to- er- do anything. Just admit it and stay casual. And about Rohit, yeah we can tell him. He'll understand. I think,"

Jasprit nodded and drove the rest of the path in silence.

On a scale of 10,rate Jasprit. :D
