Night Changes

CHAPTER 24

  I woke up as the rays of the sun reached my face. I slowly went to the window: what a beautiful day.

Maybe something good could actually come out of it.

  Rohit's conversation with me last night gave me a ray of hope..maybe he could actually make Jasprit listen to me?

  I sighed and checked my phone. It was already 12.45! I prayed that Rohit wrote me something about Jassi but..he didn't. Then it struck  me- he was supposed to talk to Ritz.

  I saw Ritz didn't text or call me since last night.

After Rohit's call.

I felt my heart beating fast. I hope everything is fine.

I decided to go for shower today as I felt a lot better after Rohit's assurance the other day. I dragged myself to the shower and the cold water made my nerves calm down.

  I came out and heard the phone beep. I instantly went for it and sure enough, Rohit texted:
"Come here fast. At my house. Please,"

I grabbed the first outdoor cloth I got and drove away.

I rang the bell. Rohit answered.

His eyes swollen with crying, his face exhausted and had a pathetic look.

My heart broke again.

My best friend's marriage, the power couple are done.

Rohit cleared his throat and let me in.

As I went in, I saw-

Jasprit Bumrah.

He looked at me with the same astonishment as I did.

He looked pale, his eyes burdened with the weight of not sleeping.

Rohit woke me up.

"Alayna, Jassi- you guys- thanks you so much for coming with a single message. You guys did so much for me. I guess you should know the truth,"

"What- what happened Rohit? Where's Ritz?"

"I'm here,"

We turned around to see Ritz at the door with Sam in her arms.

She came in and looked at us.

Rohit was the one who spoke,

"I don't know how you guys are gonna feel about it, but-
Ritz isn't cheating on me,"

I felt like jumping with happiness.

I threw my arms around Ritz.

"Thank God, Ritz. I was so scared..."

I noticed she wasn't speaking or hugging me back.

I pulled away and looked at her. She kept her gaze fixed at the ground.

Oh.

We blamed her for no reason.

She probably hates me now.

A tear escaped my eyes.

It's over.

Rohit continued:
"Whatever we saw, was true. But it was just that.. Ritika's father is a lawyer. And Trent came to her to seek help regarding his wife and child,"

My mouth opened wide.

"He wanted a divorce from his wife but it was complicated because of his child. His wife would get the custody which he couldn't afford. He knew Ritz's father was a lawyer so he approached her because only she could protect the secrecy of this case. They were meeting and talking..because of the case. Her father is out of country so she is the one who had to be the middleman between them. Trent was also having serious mental health issue because of this, and Ritz didn't tell us because Trent wanted to keep this thing a secret, or the media would know,"

I felt relieved and guilty at the same time.

Oh god..what have we done!

"Ritz, I'm so sorry, we didn't mean to spy on you or something, or..accuse you..I- God you must be hurt.."

She intook a sharp breathe.

"Yes. I am hurt. I can't believe it. Ro, Jassi and YOU- I trust you guys more than my life! And all you did was accuse me of this..cheap..I can't imagine in my wildest dream of doing something like that. I thought you guys knew it!"

She broke down.

"Ritika, I- I really didn't mean to falsely accuse you. But..I was scared, Ritika. Scared of losing you. I couldn't believe you could do something like that but I saw you..talking and meeting with him..I'm so sorry..I was so wrong,"

"I'm sorry as well, Ritika. It was so wrong on my part to..to do such stupid things," Jasprit sighed.

"Ritz..please..forgive us. I swear we didn't mean to.. we freaked out, Ritz. You and Rohit are an ideal couple..I couldn't see you guys breaking up. Rohit was really tensed and we couldn't avoid all these signs. Please, Ritz..."

After a long pause, Ritz composed herself.

"You're right," Ritz wiped her tears,"I was wrong as well. If I opened up to Ro at the first place, none of this would've happened. I shouldn't have kept this a secret. I'm sorry, Ro,"

"It's okay, Ritz. I feel relieved now. Let's forget whatever happened,  please, and let's start afresh..and not hide anything from each other,"

Ritz smiled and nodded.

They hugged each other and I wiped my happy tears. Then I looked at Jassi, to find him looking at me.

How much I wanted to hug him.

I walked to him but he went for the door.

I followed him down the stairs.

"Jassi, wait. Please! I want to talk to you..you don't get it,"

But it was too late. I couldn't catch up with him.

He drove in his car and went away.

  RO-RITZ is safe! Phew..

But when will our girl be able to patch up with her man! Boom boom isn't letting his guard down at all ! >:(
