Riley's POV
Today was the first day everything would be going back to what would be my new normal. The guys were going to work, I would be going with them rotating whose office I hang out with while on my zoom classes. I watched the sunrise on the roof like I did almost every night it was a very peaceful way to start the day. A fun fact about the boys is that almost every day they wake up late having to literally throw clothes on and run out the door, I liked to be ready before the chaos started. I made my way downstairs to make myself a bowl of cereal as Calum walked in for his morning coffee.
" Morning" I smiled
" Morning"
" Don't forget your laptop, I'm going to get dressed" he said leaving the room
I put everything I thought I would need for the day into my bag as the guys rushed around the house. We made our way into the car silently I guess they weren't really morning people.
" Riley you can go into my office, I have a morning surgery so it will be empty" luke explained
" Okay, see you later"
I went into Luke's office and onto his couch to get a few hours of sleep.
I finished my first day of classes a few hours later, since I was taking an AP class and another honors one I had homework. Calum came in before to check on me but other than that I was pretty much alone. I decided to finish the rest of my work outside in the sun rather than in the stuffy office. I brought the blanket from Luke's office and put it on the grass for me to sit.
The hospital courtyard was actually quite nice there was a little garden and a bird fountain. I wrote some post-it notes for notes. We had to do annotations on a book we were reading in class. There were a few other people outside but I tuned them out to finish my work, this is until a little girl came up to me. She was adorable she couldn't have been more than five years old and in her small hand, she held a flower.
" Hi" I smiled the girl looked at me smiled, and handed me the flower
" oh my gosh, it's so pretty. Thank you! why don't you give it to your mom over there?" I asked looking at the older lady about 5 feet away from us
" you look sad, flowers make me happy" she said before running to her mom.
I smiled and looked at the flower doing my best to hold back my sadness, everything just seemed so messy at the moment I wish it was simple.
I packed up my things and went back to Luke's office I couldn't help but be lost in thought the whole way there. I looked down staring at my feet until I rammed into someone
" oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention and-" I rambled before stopping
You might ask yourself, why did I stop? Well in front of me stood brown-haired blue eyes, smiling boy. He was a few inches taller than me but looked around my age I immediately blushed at the sight of him.
We made eye contact a few seconds before speaking
" I think you dropped this," He said handing me the book off the floor
" Thank you, I'm Riley" I said stuttering to introduce myself
" Matthew'"
" Where are you headed?" he asked me
" My....um...Luke is a surgeon and I live with him, spend days here doing online school in his office." I still wasn't sure to classify our relationship as yet
" Hemmings is it? My mom works with him she's also a surgeon so I'm here a lot after school. "
" yup, it sounds like we will be seeing each other a lot then" I smile
" seems so" he smirked
