Riley's POVI stayed there cuddling with my mom in her bed in silence. We both fell asleep in each other arms like we would do when I was younger. I wanted to savor every moment I had with her left. I knew she was becoming weaker I could tell even though she tried to hide it, we both knew what was coming.
" Here" she said handing me an envelope
" Please open when I am gone, it should help with everything after" she explained I nodded and placed the thick envelope into my backpack.
" Can you get me some jello from the cafeteria?" she asked me
" Sure what color?" I smiled
" ooo um, pink please" she responded I nodded and grabbed my money
" I love you Riley, so much" she said as I headed out the door
" I love you too mom, I'll be right back" I laughed and giving her a hug
I made my way down to the cafeteria and grabbing two things of pink jello, there was a surprising long line to check out so I checked a few messages on my phone I had missed. I paid for the jello with the money I had left and made my back upstairs. Turning the corner I saw a few nurses and doctors near my moms room. I stopped dead in my tracks
" No, no, no" I said to myself
I ran into her room only to be pulled away by the doctor I spoke to before" Riley, hey Riley" he said trying to get my attention as he held me back
" i'm sorry but your mother is gone" he said hugging me I stayed still in shock.
I cried into his arms, slowly falling into the floor as my world crumbled around me.
" Can I say goodbye?" I asked my voice cracking
He gave me a look of pity before nodding and standing outside
" Oh god mom what am I going to do without you" I laughed holding her hand
" I hope your in a better place, I love you so much and I miss you already but don't worry about me i'll be okay and I promise to do what you said everyday" I cried tears streaming down my face. I stared at her a second longer before grabbing our stuff out of the room and heading into the hallway. I dried my tears and sat in a waiting room chair placing my head in my hands. I needed a second to comprehend what had just happened, a second to breathe. I breathed shakily and reached in my backpack for the envelope. My hands trembled as I read it this one letter would set my future, and tell me what to do next.
