Riley's POV
It was a Friday afternoon and we had officially survived our first week with online school and work. We all sat in Calum's office talking about the day
" So I heard you made an impression on chole's son," Luke said turning to me
" who is chole?"
" Apparently you met her son Matthew in the hallway a few days ago, seemed like it was nice to meet a friend in a similar situation" Ashton took over for him
" Yeah he seemed nice," I said trying to keep them not suspect of anything they would all definitely become overprotective very quickly
" We invited them over for dinner tomorrow, we both agreed it would be nice if you would hang it with each other instead of the office all day."
I nodded in agreement, it would be nice to have someone to hang out with. We would only be friends after all.
" We better go shopping then" I laughed remembering how just this morning he had literally no food in the house for breakfast
" shit you're right" Michael laughed
" I refuse to go shopping with you people, Riles is the only person here who doesn't buy useless things like the rest of you," Calum said smiling at me
" Probably because I am currently jobless" I laughed
" hold on- are you really calling my tortilla blanket useless" Michelle countered
" yes! who on earth needs that!" I couldn't contain my laughs
" It is pretty warm in his defense," Ashton smiled
" Maybe we should just order food" I sighed
I was helping Luke set the table for dinner tonight, I've been trying to keep an open mind to this whole situation. After all, we would be living together for a while, he made it hard to not enjoy his presence he made me want to believe him so badly. Just after everything, it made everyone hard to trust. Tonight was different I wasn't going to ruin the mood by thinking about that at the moment. The doorbell rang making my heart flutter, why was I so nervous it was just chole and her son.
" Riles get the door please," Calum asked taking the plates from my hand
I nodded and walked into the hallway letting Chole and Matthew inside. Chole was a tall, brown-haired woman, she smiled kindly at me.
" Hi it's so nice to finally meet you I'm Chole and this is my son Matthew who I believe you already met"
" Yes, it's nice to meet you too. The guys are in the kitchen" she nodded leading us all to the kitchen
The guys stopped and welcomed them before we sat down.
They all started talking about work and medicine that I didn't understand so I just listened focusing more on my pasta than the conversation.
" Come on," Matthew said getting up and grabbing my hand leading us away before any of the adults noticed
I left my hand in his as he led me outside, there wasn't much outside just the pool and some furniture.
" I find it's best to leave when they start talking work." he laughed walking towards the pool area to sit on the chairs
I smiled back " I never understand what they are talking about, it always scares me" I laughed
"so what is Riley Hemmings like? what's your middle name?" he smiled
" Avery" I laughed
" So, Riley Avery Hemmings tell me about yourself"
" Not much to tell, I'm an open book."
" I don't believe that, but I'll go first. My name is Matthew Noah Martin. I go to the high school up the road. My favorite color is green like your eyes, and I play lacrosse in my free time."
I blushed at his comment
" I used to play soccer, at my old school"
" What made you stop?" he asked
I paused I wasn't about to pull him away and onto my life story at the moment so i just stayed quiet.
" Well Avery, we should probably go inside it's getting cold" I smiled at the use of my middle name
" Okay Noah" I smiled getting up to leave he smiled back leading us away. Before I knew it I tripped right on the chair landing straight into the freezing pool.
" Avery!" he said running towards the end of the pool as I came up to the surface.
He grabbed my hand out of the water pulling my body up and back onto the patio, and sitting me onto the chair next to it. I sat their shivering as I tried to catch my breath and coughing up water. He kneeled down to me
" Are you okay" I nodded still unable to catch my breathe as he took off his jacket putting it on me.
Just then the guys and Chole ran out of the sliding door
" I heard you scream are you okay?!" Luke said running towards me the rest not far behind
" She tripped and fell into the pool, she was coughing up water" Noah explained to his mom
Luke took Noah's spot watching me as I started to breathe normally again
" Luke we got to get her inside and check her out." Chole said taking over
He agreed and picked me up leading everyone inside, Ashton got me a towel and put me onto the couch
" I'm okay" I told him
" I know Riles we just want to make sure, I don't want anything else to happen" Luke said putting a hair behind my ear as he check my lungs and heart with a stethoscope
" I just want to check your lungs to make sure you don't get pulmonary edema"
I hate medical words, they make me panic. I think Ashton saw my face,
" it just means I'm checking to make sure you don't have water in your lungs that can make it hard to breathe." Ashton said sitting next to me
I breathed deep following luke's lead
" any chest pain?" Chole asked me
" no"
" I'm not hearing anything, I think your okay" Luke said looking at Ashton
