chapter fifteen

Riley's POV

After our long day's we all headed home and changed before making dinner. I changed into a sweatshirt and some shorts, it felt cold in the house today but I just figured it was because of the air conditioning.

I took my usual place onto our barstools and watched Ash cook, it was entertaining and I never knew why.

"How was your day," I asked him

" It was alright, pretty busy it's flu season."

We chatted for a bit as the others came in, I set the table and we all sat down talking about random things. Ash had made tacos and they were pretty good, as I was eating I noticed my throat hurt to swallow. When I was living with my mom anytime I had gotten sick I always hid it because I didn't want to make her mad. I just brushed it off and figured it would go away eventually.

We sat and talked for a while, I stayed mostly quiet trying not to alarm them. Luke noticed my face and asked

" You okay Riles?" I smiled and nodded

" Can we watch a movie?"

They all exchanged glances at my switch of topic but agreed, I helped put away our plates and moved to the couch, and grabbing a blanket. I sat in between luke and Ash all of us sharing a blanket as we watched some random Netflix movie.

I leaned my head onto Luke's shoulder and cuddled into him more falling asleep.

Luke's POV

I felt her head lean onto my shoulder and I brought my arms around her, as she slowly fell asleep. She was finally starting to trust me this was the third or fourth time she embraced me like this. I wanted to build a relationship with her regardless of she didn't know who was lying.

Micheal saw her asleep and smiled " she must be tired she never falls asleep during our movies"

" Probably just tired but I'll watch her tomorrow to make sure. I don't have any surgeries." Calum offered

I nodded in agreement and moved my eyes back to the movie until we eventually all fell asleep.

Riley's POV

I opened my eyes slowly as I felt someone move the hair out of my face, I was still on the couch trapped in Luke's arms as Calum tried to wake me up.

" Goodmorning Riles, We have to leave soon" I groaned slowly getting up.

I made my way into my room and put on Ash's hoodie and some dark blue sweatpants. I did not feel much better today so I decided to keep it comfortable and threw my hair into a messy bun. I dragged myself into the kitchen and made myself an iced coffee thinking it will help me stay awake today.

Micheal came into the kitchen first seeing me pour the creamer into the cup

" I didn't know you liked coffee"

" I like it somedays" I smiled

He pulled me into a hug his warm body heat feeling good for my cold one.

We made it to the car the others falling in behind, I sat in the front today making me the designated DJ. I knew I was going to be noticed if I didn't sing the song so against my better judgment I did.

We made our way into the entrance as Luke kissed me goodbye

" Hang with Calum today okay?" I nodded back and turned to follow Calum to his office.

The first few blocks of school went by slowly, I did my work as Calum did whatever he was doing on his computer. My morning coffee definitely helped me wake up, as I was about halfway through English his pager went off.

" Shit. I got to go to emergency surgery call the guys if you need anything okay?" before I even had the chance to answer he ran out the door.

I managed to get through the school day and decided to take a nap before doing my homework and meeting Noah for the day.

Noah's POV

I dropped off my bag at mom's office before going to find Avery, Luke had said she was in Calum's office. I knocked on the door strangely not getting an answer so I slowly walked in seeing her completely asleep on his couch. Her messy bun fell out of her hood as I heard her deep breaths. Getting closer I noticed she did not look okay, her skin was red and she shivered.

I shook her lightly trying to wake her up

" Avery!.......Avery!........" I whisper yelled

" Riley!"

she finally opened her eyes to meet mine, she sat up looking confused. I touched her forehead lightly it felt kinda hot but I had no idea how hot it's supposed to be.

" Do you feel okay?" I asked her

she took a second before answering and with that silence, I already knew the answer

" no," she said coughing her voice sounding sick

" I'm going to get Ash or luke"

she protested immediately

" Please don't"

I sat down next to her

" Avery, just let them help you it's obvious that you are sick right now"

She put her head down, and her trembling hand grabbed mine.

"okay"
