*very quickly I just want to remind that this does not change the completed story that we know, this is merely a what if, one of many possibilities*

Tom Riddle only stops following me after I slip into the greenhouse of my Herbology class. And even then, he waits for a few minutes as I watch him through the glass planes before he turns and leaves for Arithmancy.
"Kala?"
I turn to look at a face that I know is a Black. The family resemblance is uncanny to the Blacks I have met. Pretty like Narcissa. Tall, pale and dark haired like all the other members of the Black family. And if I can remember correctly... Ursa Black. I've seen her in one of the family portraits.
And apparently, we are friends.
"Oh, look at you." She rushes to my side, wiping at my lips and fluffing my hair. It reminded me strangely of... Daphne. Yes. Ursa Black will marry a Greengrass. "Tom must have missed you."
The knowing look in her eyes makes me flush. But that same flush has Abraxas Malfoy glaring at us. "Hurry, you two. Class is starting."
Ursa— Daphne's grandmother, clicks her tongue at Abraxas. "Just because you can't stand snogging Rebecca Lestrange doesn't mean you have to get mad at the people that do enjoy a good snog."
A cruel grin makes its way to Abraxas' face. "Why? Do you enjoy snogging Alphard Black? Your cousin and fiance?"
Oh.
But Alphard will die from an unknown sickness and she will eventually get to marry the Greengrass that I know she will end up with.
"Abraxas!" I scold, seeing the distraught in Ursa's face and instantly feeling protective of her.
Bitter and clearly angry, he crosses his arms. "You're lucky your father still hasn't chosen for you. Because look at us. Unhappily in an understanding with people we detest."
Father...
My grandfather is still alive.
Joy, absolute joy fills me suddenly and my heart jumps. I have to write him. I have to have another conversation with him. I've... I've missed him so much.
Ursa gasps at this, and glares back at Abraxas. "Her father would let her choose who she wants to marry! He won't let her be married to his sister like he was. Like he was forced to."
Ah.
I almost forgot my family history. Nearly as terrible as the Gaunts, desperate to keep the family bloodline pure while keeping the wealth within the family name.
